Like another user already posted on reddit: Why not enjoy both? Switch between the platforms/websites. I am on Voat but I will also check out Reddit - and that's how I'll do it since joining Voat. While I evade most frontpage stuff I still digg so many subreddits who's Voat counterparts haven't taken off yet (or don't exist yet). Nothing bad about that imo.

I enjoy both. There are a couple of subs I run on reddit - I go there to maintain them and enjoy the content from the users. I come here for news and other entertainment. It's okay to enjoy both.

Bring those subs here! We'd love the content

edit: why on earth would you downvoat someone encouraging more content for the site...

I don't know why, but people feel like they need to pick a side and fight for it: reddit vs voat, linux vs windows vs OSX, android vs iOS, nike vs adidas, intel/nvidia vs amd and so on

It's a primitive tribe mentality, and it makes no sense to hang on to it in a community of people who have a thing science, progress and evolution.

http://www.reddit.com/r/justrolledintotheshop is one of my favorite subs, and it hasn't taken off on VOAT yet. No fuckery over there except by the customers.

That kind of small, niche sub is why I'm still on reddit, too. If all I cared about was the big subs, Voat would have me covered. Fortunately the small subs are mostly free of the worst of the identity politics wars. Mostly. I did manage to get into a mild argument over trans issues and the terminology that should be used to discuss them in /r/gallifrey, of all subs, last night.

Just a heads up, on Voat r/justrolledintotheshop is enough. (Unless of course it's easier to just copy and paste the whole url.)

That's what I'm doing. Reddit has some good Subreddits that I enjoy, and Voat had some good, level headed and civil discussions that I enjoy reading and joining, when I feel I can offer something to it, even if it is just small stuff.

Who goes on Reddit to say they're done with Voat? That's like going on CNN to say you're done with NPR.

Someone who didn't get in before voat went invite-only. Title should read "I'm tired of waiting to post on Voat"

[–] caelaorn 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

Probably the same type of people who made posts on Voat to say "I'm Done with Reddit"?

[–] VivaFrei 1 points 3 points (+4|-1) ago  (edited ago)

Not really... That I can understand because Voat is, admittedly, a smaller community with less "social influence". So by going from Reddit to Voat, the user is making a decision that will negatively effect the visibility of content they post - a social media sacrifice of sorts. But to go the other way around is not the same sacrifice.

The same type of people who take a selfie while donating to someone homeless. Fucking narcissists.

[–] VivaFrei 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago  (edited ago)

That bothers me less… You should not record a homeless person without his or her consent. There is a theory that doing something good, even if it is for selfish motives, is still good. And those types of videos sometimes inspire other people to do good…

Are all those deleted comments positive things about voat?

I hate deleted comments on reddit. It is one thing when they don't add to the conversation and another when they are the conversation.

OP seems so self important that he's gotta tell someone, as if they'd care. I hate when people do this. If you're done, just leave, we're not going to miss you, I promise.

What about the constant announcements we had over here about how users were done with reddit? Even with it being invite only they still make my front page every now and then

[–] EIMR 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Well, I don't care that he is leaving, I care that he is leaving. The person is usually not important, but he may have valid reasons and criticism, and I like to know that some might not like the website.

I think this would be appropriate.

Edit: Start at 41 seconds if you don't open the link page. This will skip the entrance music.

This is getting old. Everyone wants content, but wants someone else to provide it. Go to /new and voat. The content doesnt vote for itself. Be the change you want to see in the world.

It is sad, but his reasons are reasonable. We are becoming more and more circlejerky, and the community is staying stagnant, as nobody new can enter.

One thing I notice on here (it might be the inability to downvote without 100 points but anyway) - even when people disagree with you they don't tend to downvote unless it's something really really stupid. I'm sure there are dicks here as well, but IMO they are fewer and further between.

[–] PraiseIPU 1 points 10 points (+11|-1) ago

Hmm I've experienced the opposite. Having got a fair amount of down votes already.

The really stupid seems to fly fine (moon landing was a hoax is apparently OK)

But the more mild differing opinions or facts get dowvotes.

Check my comment history for examples.

I think you are just lucky, I've seen many relevant comments downvoted. Hell, mine has now six downvotes.

These communities can only evolve towards a circlejerk hive mind echo chamber. It is their nature, until the thought police begin thought control. Partially has to do with Eternal September and netiquette, partially has to do with the innovation adoption lifecycle, and partially the trend in downvoting dissenting opinions or upvoting opinions a user agrees with, independent of how "good," the content is. Well written responses pro or con may be too lengthy. Short responses, entertaining reponses, and responses that play to (not sure the word) whatever makes typecasting successful in movies. Also, the 90-10-1 rule. Nobody wants to search /v/new. They dont create the frontpage but they love or hate it

What's with you guys and the freaking term circle jerk? How about another word, like zealous? That's a word, guys. It's been in use for a while now. Feel free to use it.

Exactly. If Voat dies, it'll be because of the invite-only decision.

0
23

[–] ShipJumper 0 points 23 points (+23|-0) ago

Then again, if they didn't go invite only Voat would have died from too much traffic and not enough infrastructure to support it. They initially went from getting a small user base at 90k organically to a huge spike of gaining a new 700k people (unique).

Reddit users Hug of Death, or Reddit admins DDoS? There was a layer 7 DDoS attack on Voat, it is really hard to combat such an attack. The attacker has resources Voat can't match.
