Hey, that's my user name!! :)

Anyway, this statement concisely explains why I bolted Reddit, and the false claims by the media that it's just racists, misogynists, and fat people haters who complained of the new censorship rules:

Try posting an article about the TPP to /r/news or /r/worldnews to see the real face of censorship at reddit. While the shuttering of the objectionable subreddits absolutely does reflect on a general change in the attitudes of Reddit Inc, it is not the primary concern of those who support free-speech on the site. The more pressing free-speech concerns are moderator cabals and cliques who run the default subreddits with ideological bias or to the exclusion of all politics which might rock the boat.

The fallout of the drama has led to a situation where the press equates free-speech with supporting the racists, misogynists and trolls while completely ignoring the more subtle concerns that the moderator culture has strangled free expression.

Right now on Voat, there's over 50,000+ subscribers to the top 3 subverses: /v/news , /v/technology , and /v/science . Am I supposed to believe all or most of them are sexists, racists, and fat people haters? The media wants you to believe that Voat is where all of those people had gone.

It's the same old story as when people tried to create alternate subreddits like /r/worldpolitics and /r/european there is a kernel of truth to it (because yes the trolls get censored as well) but repeating it is just an attempt to make it a self fulfilling prophesy.

If they get it to stick, you'll see subs or even reddit itself entirely blocking the voat domain/mentions.

Unfortunately, I see it happening to Voat too unless they get a better handle on power-hungry mods whether they're on Reddit or Voat. The censorship on Reddit in news and worldnews was unbearable. You honestly could not have a harsh opinion which didn't agree with the mods. God forbid if you ever said anything negative about Israel which automatically gets you banned on Reddit. I got a taste of the censorship on Voat recently when I posted something to /v/fatpeoplehate . ;) They banned my post because for trolling. That's like banning an atheist from a Christianity forum for questioning anything in the Bible.

People also seem to forget that we're all human, and some people just might have both smart, insightful thoughts about current events, and take pleasure in the activities of /fatpeoplehate or wherever else.

It's not like everyone is strictly jesus or strictly satan, everyone's kinda got good sides and bad sides.

NO idea why people keep forgetting that.

Its nice at this point all I can do is upvoat, its breaking me from the bad habits I had gotten over the years of putting up with all the meme, crap over there.

Oh yeah, I was scouring everywhere on r/news on TPP and couldn't find anything!

I had to go on twitter and read up on it. :(

I can hate fat people because I scientifically understand their economical and biological impact on society.

To me, the most aggravating thing about the press surrounding recent Reddit controversies is the continual way that /r/fatpeoplehate is mischaracterized.

It was not a troll subreddit, and it was not a harassment subreddit in the sense of harassing named, non-celebrity individuals.

The fat acceptance movement, like most of its SJW ilk, is ultimately totalitarian - not even in a Stalinist sense but in a Maoist sense. It's not enough in 2015 to just not bully fat people and leave them alone to mind their own business - no, not anymore. In the modern era, you have to ritualistically bow down and proclaim that fat people (fat women, specifically and most prominently) are beautiful. Not only that, but any and all indication that some other type of person (and woman, specifically and most prominently) might be more beautiful has to be suppressed as "triggering" and "exclusionary", whether it's in an ad for a protein drink or in a Hollywood film or in porn or on your own Facebook page.

/r/fatpeoplehate was a revolutionary space, made up of people who had collectively decided to reject the Orwellian demands of the fat acceptance movement, to say FUCK YOU, I refuse to lie and say you're beautiful. And I refuse to change our entire visual culture to accomodate your feelings. And I don't care what triggers you, and I don't want to hear your bullshit about your genetics any more.

It was definitely not a troll subreddit. And it wasn't a minor subreddit, either - the traffic stats don't support that. In fact, that's why it had to be killed - because it was successful. As long as these "hate" subreddits got no traffic, nobody cared. Pao had to strike when she did because FPH was taking over the entire site.

Yeah I agree that fatpeoplehate is quite a different thing from coontown, but the reddit administration treats them the same way.

Exactly, reddit will allow subreddits it really doesn't like so long as they don't get too big. The banning of /r/rapingwomen and /r/gasthekikes was just an appeasement to the SJW crowd; but reddit knows that if they took a hard line against "offensive" subs it would shatter the illusion that reddit is a free expression space.

I disagree with you there. I've visited Coontown to see what the commotion was all about, and it's far from just trolling. It's mostly news stories about black crime and blacks murdering whites. Is it racist to post crime statistics by race? I know in a few posts in /r/DataIsBeautiful, it was.
A link to an article on Nate Silver's website, http://fivethirtyeight.com, about blacks being killed 12 times as often as whites was posted on Reddit. Instead of getting the favorable SJW response about how unfair blacks had it, Redditors tore apart the statistics. So what did the mods on /r/DataIsBeautiful do? They closed the thread to new comments despite it having 1000+ comments and was still going strong. I shit you not. The thread may still be archived on Reddit, but knowing how Reddit is today, I wouldn't be surprised if they just deleted it entirely from Reddit history.

Except for banning the former and allowing the latter to stay up.

I'm also pissed about the fat celebration circlejerk and I'm a person that actually gets off on curvy ladies and big sexy bears. It's just so fucking annoying to see other peoples opinions getting invalidated or shamed like that. I may not understand peoples opinions, but I'd never want to censor them for it.

Also what really bothers me is people forgetting there was 150k users!! 150k!! Ofc some of them were trolls, some were idiots, some where just mentally unstable etc etc etc....

Its not like fph was just one person with one voice. We were not a hive mind, just because few morons harassed someone doesn't mean the whole community supported that....

I kinda disagree. Anytime I got into a discussion with somebody from FPH, when I tried to mention that eating disorders are a thing they would just say "Nope" and call me a fatty. The people that I encountered always seemed to have that sort of zealous stubbornness when defending their own group that I see from SJWs a lot. Of course they should have never been banned from Reddit, that was a ridiculously totalitarian move and as far as I know they were never really guilty of any actual harassment, but I have to be honest in saying that it was really a terrible subreddit that relied on just as much inaccurate information as the fat acceptance movements does.

I'm gong to be100 percent honest. The front page of reddit is actually crappier than the first page of voat. The content is nothing but cat pictures and non consequential crap. No real news. Place is dead.

I now use facebook more than I do reddit. I got lucky that I found some good ol' "giving feminists/SJWs shit for stupid posts" or well, more accurately, giving shit to the posts (there's no witch hunting) and those threads are a lot of fun.

I warned Redditors about that. They don't tackle real issues or news anymore which is sad as well as disturbing. And even if they do touch on a hot topic, you cannot be sure anymore if that's the real pulse of a conversation because of how many people get their posts deleted or users get shadowbanned. The thought that every post must pass through a moderator for approval makes me sick. As if users are too dumb to sift through the garbage posts, or the more sinister motive, to control a conversation to reflect Reddit's or the mod's views.

Once again, go1dfish, you hit it right on nose.

reddit has been dead for some time. I first noticed an issue when they made all the android apps become "app name" for reddit. all apps had to change the names they had. Just so reddit could release the half assed offical AMA app.

I wrote up a blog post here explaining my views on all of this. It was refreshing to read a post from someones point of view that wasn't just spewing anger.

Heh http://snew.github.io was originally called "V for reddit"

You either rage quit Reddit as a hero or stay long enough to see yourself become the villain.

I might just add that in to my post. That's a funny coincidence with the app names.

And now that I see that last link, it was probably the reason I used the quote in my article too.

That was a Google Play policy change, not reddit itself. In fact, reddit is fun somehow was able to keep its name.

It's not going to die. I still go to Digg once a year or so to see if it's gotten any better. It's still there. So was Myspace last time I looked. Aminet is still running "Aminet is a set of interconnected WWW and FTP servers hosting freely distributable Amiga software. Established in 1992." Escom made the last Amiga in 1997. Reddit will be around for years to come

How often do you hear about Digg on the internet? It exists, but at the same time it's gone. Without people, without traffic, and wihout some flow of information Reddit will eventually go extinct

Reddit unfortunately won't die which I need to happen to make my username relevant. ;) There will always be people who just want to look at cat pics and just read fluff articles. Reddit already admitted they plan to become even more mainstream by getting celebrity AMAs as opposed to the "boring" scientists and writers they had previously on AMAs. So now you'll get movie stars promoting their latest movies, and it'll just be like reading a transcript of a Tonight Show.
