What's with the sudden need for Reddit to be unoffensive? Seems like they are afraid of everything now.

Gonna sell out to Facebook soon, I think.

That's the problem with having a universal content policy. Everyone has different content values. Voat has user tools which allow me to set my own content policy and decide what subs I as an individual want to block. Reddit wants to play content police and is now dealing with the consequences of assuming that responsibility.

I suspect that's so there'll be less uproar if they delete one or more of those communities - after all, "you didn't pay anything for them, why can't we just delete them?"

All non-default subs are already "opt-in". This is extremely retarded.

Or are they referring to the ones that don't even show up in searches?

I think they're referring to the subs that will be "opt-in" that spez talked about in the announcement last thursday.

These are great protest features. Way better than going private IMO.

Holy shit... Reddit passing up an opportunity to make money? This must be backwards day or something. Wow!

And now, people will be pissed that the "offensive" subreddits are being hosted for free, while the normal ones have to pay for their existence with gold and users' private data(ad related data collection).

Actually I have no problem with them burrying things a little deeper or saying that they don't want profits off of some things, but this is just a misdirection so that you don't notice that they are yet again removing some subreddits.
