From a year ago, wow. The writing has been on the wall for quite a while.

The writing was not on the wall. Some moderators deleted it.

I agree. Personally I find myself on various "sides" of the political spectrum depending on what issue is being discussed. Therefor I don't readily claim to be on either side explicitly. Regardless, it is always pleasurable ( for me at least) to engage in a healthy, intelligent, and calm discussion with someone of opposing viewpoints. It all goes to hell whwn either side resorts to the internet equivalent of screaming/yelling with fingers in their ears, or worse yet when the hive-mind decides to bury dissenting or challenging viewpoints from anything that isn't in line with their views. I'll downvoat people for being assholes but never for expressing their opinion in a clear and well-written way regardless of the fact that I may not agree with it.

Organic online consensus is a myth. Didn't you learn anything from Snowden, Greenwald, and Appelbaum?

Uh, guys? The writing was on the wall from the very second it was founded.... :/

https://voat.co/v/technology/comments/259138/875427

Someone so single-mindedly starved to make it to the big-time that he would agree (along with his co-founder) to impersonate hundreds of different users would have no qualms whatsoever with any of the examples in this comment bundle.

they gave my IP to the police to be used as someone's personal army for making a sarcastic comment. I had to ask 4 cops with a no warrant search of my place - where is it ok to be sarcastic? fucking reddit fuck off.

Did you have to let the police search your apartment, or did you refuse?

I asked for a warrant, and they said they didn't need one because it was an 'exigent threat' - but clearly it wasn't and they obviously weren't treating it as such - they didn't even know who they were looking for because of shared IP. It was an opportunity to harrass me and tell me to 'cool it.' over my very vocal protestations of state sponsored terrorism.

It's amazing what happens to people when "Their Man" is elected to office. People would be screaming bloody murder, tying themselves to trees if Bush was using drones for counter-terrorism, if Bush was pushing for Trans-Pacific, Trans-Atlantic trade agreements. Admittedly, as the American establishment has kept trucking with the change of hands more people are beginning to want clearer anti-establishment characters, Ron Paul and now Bernie Sanders.

They'll be back on board if it's decided Jeb is to win 2016.

Which is, remarkably enough, a reason to prefer Jeb to Hillary. People might actually oppose him.

Sanders would still be an actual decent candidate, which puts him many miles ahead of those two.

To be fair, Greenwald's attitude towards censorship on reddit seems to depend entirely on whether he's the one being censored.

Gamergate and Intercept have been in exactly the same boat regarding arbitrary censorship on reddit, but his attitude in twitter fights has been that gamers are whiners.

Greenwald's work on the Snowden/NSA subject has been remarkable, but outside of that, it's been extremely questionable. His stance on criticism of Islam being considered racism or phobia is moronic and his stance of non-intervention against ISIS, a regime that has been decimating the Middle-East, is even more idiotic.

His position in ISIS is entirely justified considering where the money for all this comes from.

The key to solving media woes is to have random, anonymous, bitter, partisan Reddit moderators decide what is and isn't "news"

The patron saint of Snowden is even slamming reddit now. They fucking love Grennwald and Snowden over there (as they should, considering what these men have done for everyone) so I'll be interested to see how they react to seeing these icons call them out on their bullshit.
