What bothers me is that come Friday, Voat is going to be inundated with a bunch of shit sites that will competely alter its community composition and likely trash its content. Voat needs to be very worried about this.

If they tell the truth, people will leave though. That's their problem... they want their cake and to eat it too.

And they've had that for a while now, raking in TONS of money. Now they're finished eating their cake, and are eating their other cake. Except it's gone dry, stale, and moldy. But they just keep choking it down in hopes of the website somehow returning to its former glory.

Good luck with that, guys.

That's what pissed me off most. It's not even that they heavily censor. It's that it's so fucking arbitrary. It's not that rules are known and broken, it's that they're not known, that they morph day to day and on a whim. What's ok for months or years will suddenly be heavily acted on, users banned and subreddit taken out just because one silly SJW gets their panties in a bunch and catches the right person's ear.

I hate censorship, but what killed reddit for me is that there's no bar to go from. It's hit or miss and nothing applies across the board. It only applies to people they don't like on a given day.

I don’t seriously expect SRS to get the chop either, though they should. TumblrInAction and KotakuInAction will also be spared, at least for the time being. But I 'm sure that it is time to say good-bye to /r/CoonTown. Any takers for this bet?

Tumblrinaction maybe but I can't see them not banning kotakuinaction

Only if you're skewing the payout to match the odds. If anything, you should be asking for bets that r/CoonTown somehow escapes the axe.

When I first went to SRD it was not too bad and was an alright place to see the goings on reddit wide but overtime it just turned into a SRS clone. Just the other day there was a thread linked where an OP had dared to use the word 'girl' and the thread was nothing more than people gang piling in showing disgust that 'girl' was used instead of 'woman' even though the content had to do with economics and zero to do with any of the bullshit they were going on with.

1
2

[–] Camarilla 1 point 2 points (+3|-1) ago

It tends to answer the questions, and people really aren't supposed to go from there to make it worse. It's supposed to be kind of like a /r/tldr

[–] Sydviciouz 0 points 16 points (+16|-0) ago

No doubt in my mind it stays. Reddit is ran by SJWs.

And that's a big "FUCK YOU" to all of us from Snoo.

You're missing /r/TheRedPill, /r/seduction, /r/MensRights, and associated subreddits. These obviously can't be fairly categorized under any of those categories, but they'll be targeted, anyway.

Of course it will stay, could even be made a default along with SRS. I mean it seems like they are actively trying to destroy the website so why not!?

[–] BerugaBomb 0 points 9 points (+9|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Remember when they doxxed some guy that went by the name Yasser and called him a rapist and contacted his family/employer about it and his ex girlfriend showed up and said he never raped her and to stop harassing him and they banned her from the sub? They of course modded the doxxer. The doxxer got shadowbanned and their alt rejoined the sub and got remodded.

But that wasn't behavior, just ideas.

0
23

[–] MGTOW_Xui 0 points 23 points (+23|-0) ago

And /r/MGTOW as well - they often say "meanie face" things and most people reading the sub would probably get hurted "fee fees".

[–] Apathy 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Doesn't really matter if they remove that. Most MGTOW have sites that are not associated with reddit, and usually private forums to boot. They could shut down /r/MGTOW tomorrow and nobody would notice.

Ideologically, you're right. Logistically, the community is too small (compared to some of the bigger manosphere communities) to attract initial attention. Possibly later.

Good call, thanks. My guess is that the banning will be incremental as intended with FPH et al.:

In response to an inquiry from BuzzFeed News about the negative response from users, a Reddit representative said, “We did this incrementally so we could manage the response with our limited resources.”

"manage the response"

That's some spin, heh.

0
1

[–] booya666 0 points 1 point (+1|-0) ago

It's really more voat that has to manage the response. But if they're going incrementally, I'm thinking it will just be the explicitly racist/antigay/anti-trans/antiwoman type subs this time. The ones with slurs in their names or sidebars. The general reddit audience will be less upset by that than the banning of fph. I think TRP will survive for now. There's an outside chance they'll throw KIA and/or PCMasterRace in with the hate subs to try to bury the news. That's what I would do if I were an SJW and in charge.

[–] FuckedUpLuck ago  (edited ago)

"We did this incrementally because if you throw frogs into a boiling pot of water, rather than putting them in room temperature water and bringing it to a boil, they all jump out."

I don't think you'll find too many frogs left on Reddit by Friday. Plenty of sheep though.

/r/seduction and /r/mensrights are pretty thoroughly blue pill, I'd be surprised if they got the axe.

0
13

[–] thelasttwinkie 0 points 13 points (+13|-0) ago

I think both those subs at least mean well in their own way. They have their extremists, but also some pretty sincere guys just trying to better themselves and discuss the things that concern them. Like masculine support groups. Whenever I have taken the time to look through them I always find a good amount of interesting thoughtful comments. I don't think they deserve to be lumped in with FPH and Red Pill.

I'm just a lesbian so WTF do I know, but it doesn't seem like young men are offered much guidance beyond "don't rape" with a strong undercurrent of "women are easily offended so be careful" these days yet more than ever is expected of them. There's a lot of confusing messages, and guys are sort of left to sort it out on their own... so I think men talking to other men about personal issues in a sincere way is a really good thing, so what if it comes under the guise of picking up chicks or fighting the good fight?

You should add /r/pcmasterrace to the betting pool. They've gotten heat for being the biggest subreddit which isn't under control of the admin/powermods cabal. Seriously....check their mod profiles. Not a single representative from r/SRS, r/gaming, or any default subreddit mods.

r/pcmasterrace also temporarily got banned in 2013 which resulted in a gamergate style shitpost storm on all gaming subreddits until it was reinstated. The admin explanation for the banning looked word for word identical to the FPH ban from last month. It's a long shot bet, but I can definitely see the admins trying to find an excuse to get rid of them again to cement their hold on reddit and to make reddit look more attractive to advertisers such as Sony, Microsoft, and Apple.

They've gotten heat for being the biggest subreddit which isn't under control of the admin/powermods cabal.

Are the majority of Reddit subs run by an overlapping pool of mods? I wouldn't have thought PCMR was particularly special!

0
20

[–] mscomies 0 points 20 points (+20|-0) ago

Oh yes. Most big subreddits have at least one supermod like ani625, moderator of 176 subreddits, including multiple defaults.

[–] CainesFirstLaw 0 points 14 points (+14|-0) ago

Yes, yes they are. SJW powermods control hundreds of subreddits a piece.

[–] puffellen69 [S] 0 points 17 points (+17|-0) ago

They've got 427,045 subs! But after they canned FPH with 150,000 who knows. But if, then certainly not in the first round with CoonTown etc.

I doubt PCMR can be banned at this point. Its become too large and stays within guidelines.

[–] EagleRock 0 points 1 point (+1|-0) ago

True, but with the semi-regular "/r/pcmasterrace is leaking" posts that happen on a regular basis, there's nothing to say they won't kill the subreddit just because of bad publicity. That, plus the with the start of the subreddit being so shaky (think /r/gloriouspcmasterrace days), there's nothing to say it won't get the axe anyway.

[–] GlipGlops ago

FPH stayed within guidelines. It didn't stop reddit from claiming a bunch of bullshit without evidence.

0

[–] RevRound 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

I doubt they will ban it, but in a way I hope they do because it would cause a huge exodus. One thing about those PCMR guys is that they are dedicated and and dont put up with shit which is why they have never been co-opted

Wow, the amount of work you've done just for this post. I applaud and upvoat you for that.

I'm going to guess one person will recommend removing KiA. After that, Huffman will say something along the lines of "a significant amount of the community wants KiA and its brigading gone," and then ban it.

GamerGhazi and SRS will stay, though

I've got a feeling that /r/kotakuinaction /r/blackout2015 /r/conspiracy and /r/hailcorporate will all eventually get the axe, if not in this round of banning. They're all too close to the truth of what's happening on reddit.

0
8

[–] ChrissiTea 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

/r/blackout2015 is definitely gone but I can't quite work out /r/hailcorporate.

On paper, it seems obvious to ban it, but there are a bunch of posts that have pointed out how much traffic certain businesses get because of their "fails" or spam posts. On one hand, it could deter a lot of businesses from signing up to Corporate Reddit, but on the other hand, they get publicity if they do well or if they fail, which is kind of a win win in the "no publicity is bad publicity" camp.

0
9

[–] Original_Username 0 points 9 points (+9|-0) ago

That much nuance isn't PR friendly. They'll look at it as a "corporate hate" sub so ban it under the guise of "targetting businesses" or some shit.

0
6

[–] Tsugumori 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

I don't think they could get away with banning /r/conspiracy . Generally speaking, no one takes conspiracy theorists seriously... unless they start getting actively censored (as in blacked out or removed, not attempts to debunk or discredit them). Then everyone realizes that they're onto something.

KiA they can probably get rid of as the community has a tendency to get toxic and/or spill out into the site at large. blackout will probably go, too, since honestly most people don't care about it. /r/hailcorporate is up in the air, but will probably stay becuase they don't want to risk pissing off the anti-corporation liberal bandwagon that makes up a lot of the /r/politics crowd.
