As many of you have read Yishan made a convincing argument that Reddit was never supposed to be a bastion of free speech and he was the one that first enforced those beliefs.
This is wrong.
If anything, he created the precedent at Reddit to start removing content. Rewind to January 2012. Reddit just launched a fierce campaign to boycott Godaddy because of their stance on SOPA. Empowered with the victory, the website then blacks out the entire site in order to bring more attention to SOPA...and it works! Internet collectivism can be used to promote change and action in the real world!
Just two months later Yishan is made the first ever CEO of the website. In the next two years, subreddits start getting banned and no more protests are held.
Reddit went from being a bastion of free speech and online activism to a censored and restrictive safe space DURING the time Yishan was CEO.
Do not be fooled with anything he says.
