He seems to be having way too much fun sowing discontent to be trusted. Seems to be saying anything that sounds remotely plausible that will paint his friend Ellen as the innocent patsy used by the evil board.

And it's working. It's interesting to see how a couple of his comments in the recent past have really turned the hate on Ellen around on Reddit. Well that and her resignation.

To be fair, Reddit hired Ellen. Ellen did not make Reddit crap, Reddit wanted to become crap.

Maybe it's not working; lots of the top comments in the big threads are actually from SRS and SRD posters (I RES tag them to keep track).

[–] Kimmy 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

I think he has an agenda, but whether it is personal or business-related, he's definitely trying to shape public opinion on Reddit, and it's doing....something. I really disliked how he tried to place blame of Ellen's departure on the Reddit community, as if Redditors had any choice in not being vocal/upset against recent censorship on Reddit. Without his "revelation" posts a lot of the drama would be dying down, but he's fanning the flames for one reason or another. I wonder what he gets out of it.

There was a post from today's announcement that really caught my eye.

After reading this link and all the replies from all previous and current CEOs (Yishan, Pao, and Hoffman) and Sam Altman, I have a feeling they are ALL in on this con. It's just a game for them to fool users and create controversy to attract media attentions.

At the same time trying to milk more money from investors and set up popular subreddits as money makers.

[–] 404_SLEEP_NOT_FOUND 1 points 22 points (+23|-1) ago

Can't help but feel that kn0thing and spez have a plan for AMA and Reddit gift exchange that is profit oriented and required the removal of Victoria and kickme444.

Also remember, Yishan fired someone who disagreed with how the gifting system should work. Another person at reddit fired because they didn't want to con the users over fake gifts/fake AMA's.

Reddit's gift's and AMA's are fake, and the employees who had enough integrity to stand up were fired.

I don't think so. It's unprofessional as fuck to have a public spat between a company and it's former CEO. I doubt the investors are very happy about this.

[–] IT_is_not_all_I_am 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Unless someone bought him out, Yishan IS an investor in Reddit. He's explicitly named as an investor in the announcement of the $50M VC funding: http://recode.net/2014/09/30/reddit-raises-50m-plans-to-share-stock-with-community-members/ -- It's possible he's even still on the board; how else would he know what the board told Ellen??

0

[–] heili 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

It's all just shit. Pao wasn't set up on any 'glass cliff' by her good friend Yishan Wong. She and all the rest have been in on the plan from the start.

0
16

[–] assholepuke 0 points 16 points (+16|-0) ago

I don't think any of them are that smart. But, it's nice that you are giving them the benefit of the doubt. Pao's corrupt husband and silly lawsuit. Yishan's public, unprofessional shit-talking. Spez' magical return having nothing to do with his shitty Hipmunk business that is likely nearly broke anyway. All of this reeks of a bunch of Ivy League douchebags taking care of people in their network.

/u/yishan

My favorite part is how zero of the Reddit leadership ever admit to doing anything wrong. It's always the Reddit communities. We're the problem. Even in their half-hearted "we screwed up" post, they never addressed any of the real issues people were having over and over. But they had no problem going to other newspapers and bashing us as a "vocal minority."

They never had any problem with lopping the worst users in with the rest of us. I never stalked anyone yet somehow I'm the problem and I should be sorry. And because some jackoff posts something racist (on the internet?! NEVER!), my reasonable concerns are somehow invalidated.

How are those mod tools coming? Oh wait, that has nothing to do with harassment and everything to do with Reddit staff's failure. So he won't even mention that.

What about the complete lack of transparency, a public policy on what constitutes harassment/banning, and answering real questions in ANY of the announcement threads? Oh that must also be our fault.

All I want--all I ever wanted--was to laugh, learn, and discuss ideas with people. But the last few months, Reddit leadership has created this PR shitstorm and they're still not taking credit for it.

News flash: If your community "doesn't get" what you're doing? Congratulations, you fucked up. You have failed to communicate effectively. You failed to stop all the conspiracy theories because you never addressed them and they bloomed until your CEO had to step down. This is a complete failure on your part because Reddit's online community is no different than anyone else's. You hold all the cards, and yet you never bothered to understand what would happen when you played them.

People would have accepted every single one of your ideas and requests... like sponsored AMA's, if you just talked to your community like fucking adults. "Look guys, we have to pay the bills and here's how we propose to do it."

But even now, you talk about Voat (an entire community of people) as if they're all a bunch of pedophiles and racists. What a petty statement from someone who should be acting like a professional.

That's why people hate you guys. Because the second things get dicey, you turn on your community instead of leading it.

Stop acting like an egotistical college freshman and start acting like adults.

I have said this elsewhere. I believe Yishan is laying the groundwork for his buddy Ellen Pao to sue Reddit or is at least trying to rehabilitate her career. There are no heroes at Reddit.

0
8

[–] reed 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

Possibly. I mean she has a lot of dirt on her, and the user base of the platform she was running ended up despising her. Throughout her tenure as CEO, however, she did at the very least exhibit a high level of professionalism, during a time that the front page was plastered with pictures of her as Hitler and chairman Mao.

I can't believe that Pao would sue reddit for any sort of discrimination. Although I don't think she's very bright, I have to believe she understands that such action would now and forever destroy her business future. Hell, who am I kidding? Her lawyers are probably already drafting the lawsuit and that's why she hasn't said fuckin word about anything. Just following her lawyers' advice.

I just don't understand why these so called 'professionals' are so fond of talking so much shit about their business in public for everyone to see. I saw a long winded post of his where he's crapping on this Alexis chump, saying how disappointed he is. Is this how powerful business people usually conduct themselves and air their concerns?

To me it would be absurd to not think this is all some kind of con. They've developed a habit of deleting and censoring dissention and yet they are quite happy with this dude talking shit about Reddit for all to see? Unlikely. At this point I don't trust or believe a thing that any of these scaly fuckers from Reddit have to say or do. They are all too aware of how easily people are manipulated. "He said it on the internet and sounds sincere, it must be true, these rich, powerful businessmen are just like us!"

26

[–] Vithar42 0 points 26 points (+26|-0) ago

Keep in mind, Reddit has 70 employees and an annual revenue of 8million a year, and does not operate with a profit. These are not powerful businessmen. They don't know what they are doing.

[–] assholepuke 0 points 9 points (+9|-0) ago  (edited ago)

It is absurd the way the admins are behaving. But, please, don't believe for a second that any of this is planned. Remember, creating reddit or getting fired by Kleiner Perkins does not make these people competent business professionals. These people need to hire some serious advisers before they open their mouths again. You don't need to pay me $2000/hr to advise Yishan and N0thing to shut their mouths, or that Pao should have been much more transparent and communicative during her brief tenure as CEO.

What if Spez is only temporary with the plan for Yishan to take over? It's setting him up to be the hero. Although his disdain for Redditors at the end is sort of strange.

Who here likes Facebook?

Any Facebook addicts?

Who here used to love Facebook back when it was limited to fancy pants university kids? (Sigh. Me)

Who here got totally disgusted with Facebook months if not years before they went public?

Who here can count to $247 billion market cap despite little evidence of monetization?

They want it to suck because bling. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Edit: i felt terrible about bringing the bad news. So, i also brought the funk.

Checked your comments. You're not.

I wonder how Victoria feels about all of this.

Like she's probably peeved that she lost her job over some what I assume is bullshit reasons. But she has to be pretty satisfied with the way reddit reacted.

It might be sad in a way to see reddit crumble, but she has to be laughing at Ohanian and Pao right now. KARMA BITCHES.

[–] Kimmy 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

I agree. They probably put her in a tough position where: She could work but fail to deliver the goods on time, feel bad/stressed about it, get involved in toxic office politics, and get pointed at as part of the blame by management when ridiculous timelines weren't met, thus creating a stain on her job performance/reputation.....OR, she could quit in understandable conditions (Reddit imploding) while she was still new and not established at Reddit, and find a better/more stable job. She's a smart lady for leaving!

Well, couldn't you make some type of statement explaining your side? Or is there some type of corporate business technicalities preventing someone from doing so?

Pao isn't doing that and is actually defending herself with Ohanian, Hoffman and Wong all backing her up. They might not be saying that directly, but they've all stated that they're continuing her work. If she thinks they used her as a scapegoat, she should say something. I know I would.
