I disagree. I migrated from reddit and want to talk about reddit amongst other things. Reddit posts are actual content, much in the same way macramé designs are content even though they don't give me anything and I'd wish they'd post video-game related news rather than macramé.

It doesn't need to be on /v/all for you to talk about it.

For Voat to be a healthy site it needs to be about more than just "fuck reddit lol". If that's all people see when they visit then that's the only kind of user we will get here. Free speech also needs diversity of opinions.

I'm new here and I agree, but at the same time I didn't even know about this sub until I saw it mentioned on v/news. The admins might want to think about making this a featured sub to direct people who are new and want to vent before getting established here.

then talk about reddit. But it doesn't need to blow up /v/all and prevent actual content from spreading.

Then you and I disagree on what's "actual content".

Right now Reddit is the story, and Voat is a part of that story. Do not worry, soon we will all move on to other things.

Isn't this more an issue of lack of content? I mean, clearly the amount of posts are growing and increasing, but right now the /v/meanwhileonreddit seems to be the most active subverse.

but if /v/meanwhileonreddit continues to dominate /v/all, then it will be harder for other subs to grow. /v/all is what newcomers see when they come to Voat, and 1/3 of the posts are meanwhileonreddit which pushes other subs out.

Man, I hear what you are saying, but I think that if we're doing this right, the biggest stories will be on top of the list. So if everyone is interested in what's going on in reddit, well, it's gonna be important for a while. We need to keep our minds open to the idea that one day in the future, there won't be much news from reddit. So it's not a great idea to manipulate the results now, since it's not really representative of what will come.

That can be said about any sub. If /v/funny starts dominating /v/all then will you be advocating foe the removal of /v/funny from /v/all because it's hindering the growth of other subsverses?

But it's legit because it's kind of a big story irl - it's still playing out and it's kind of outrageous..

I would agree with this. So long as /v/news and/or /v/technology don't start censoring legit news coverage of the events.

/v/fatpeoplehate voluntarily removed themselves from /v/all temporarily so that the site can grow, because they dominated /v/all. It'd be nice for /v/meanwhileonreddit to do the same thing. It'd help out the site.

I understand that. But if a lot of users, and by a lot i mean a LOT, want to know what's going on on reddit then it should be up there in /v/all as per number of upvoats. /v/all is meant to be about popularity.

If you don't want to see content from a sub then go to that sub's page and right be the unsubscribe button there will be a block button. Press that and you'll never see content from said sub.

There's some absolutely insane stuff going on over at Reddit right now which is why meanwhile is blowing up. The new CEO has played his cards. It looks like two pair, black aces and 8s. This is probably only going to get bigger and culminate in another mass migration which will result in ever more Reddit related talk.

I think that this is the better decision. Not a campaign to remove /v/meanwhileonreddit from /v/all, but a campaign to inform new users of the subverse block button, so that they can control what they see themselves.

The point is that everyone coming here seeking for a reddit alternative for their news, cute pics etc will end up seeing even more drama about Reddit and nothing else.

How would you expect people to wean themselves off reddit when half the frontpage mentions reddit?

there will be a block button.

My initial thoughts exactly. But OP wants to block /v/meanwhileonreddit for all new users by default.

  1. Go to /v/meanwhileonreddit

  2. find the "Block" button

  3. Click on it

  4. Boom.

No more /v/meanwhileonreddit posts on your /v/all page ! (may take some time to be effective)
