I have no words to express how disappointed I am in the coverage of this. The media has completely missed the mark, again.

No they haven't. They've hit exactly the mark they want to. Aggregator sites and the Internet in general are a threat to their business model and the business model of their biggest contributors, so they take every single opportunity they can to associate "the Internet" with objectionable things. They want Reddit users vilified so that people who aren't personally invested will go "ew, I don't want to associate with those people, I shouldn't use those sites." We've all made a conscious decision to step away from Reddit for a variety of reasons (for me, I feel that it's recent direction is incompatible with the ideals of a free Internet), but we've made an informed decision. 24-hour news outlets like CNN and Fox and MSNBC want their users to make a gut reaction when they see the word "Reddit."

This is calculated. You don't get to be in a leadership position with any company by collecting bottlecaps, and these rich white dudes want nothing more than to be super-rich white dudes, so they vilify anything that might stand in their way. That's why I love the Internet, there is not (yet) a way to control what I see on it. There's a quote around here somewhere...“The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.” - Eric Schmidt

That scares the shit out of the upper echelon who got where they are by pushing everyone around them down. There was a time (I like to believe) when journalism was about ensuring that We The People could make informed decisions, but now it just seems to be about who can keep the ADD of We The People sated for long enough.

Eh. The media is largely becoming irrelevant at this point. Nobody under the age of 35 cares what CNN says...if they're even watching at this point (which also is unlikely).

CNN is not the only media outlet expressing the story in this form. There have been multiple stories today alone, stating exactly the same bullshit CNN has.
