Yes, it's silently deleted, similar to a shadowban. The user is not made aware of the removal.
The spam filter could have been an explanation except no other site has been hard banned before. The admins initially instituted a ban where the mods could not approve the automatically-removed posts and comments including Slimgur links even if they wanted to. That's clearly intentional.

bad phrasing on my part - I wasn't implying that slimgur got recognized as spam, I was just interested in the implementation of it, ie if the Reddit admins implemented the ban by manually adding slimgur to the spam filter.
