I think your anger/frustration is misguided based on your confusion. That popup is part of a feature that's supposed to prevent people from vote brigading. But reddit's evil, so fuck them right?

What confusion? I know it's designed to prevent vote brigading. I just think it is retarded, because it's very ineffective, and it's very irritating.

If people posted a link saying everyone should downvote some asshole, then they sure as hell won't post a np link. And if someone who wanted to downvote just for the sake of joining in on the brigade, then they can easily get to the non np link and downvote.

But if someone link me, who was just browsing Reddit like normal clicks on a link, and starts reading through a thread and voting as normal, suddenly gets warned about being banned for voting, then I'm going to get really pissed off.

You seem be be very confused about what the issue is.

I'm not confused at all. That feature was implemented two serve two purposes. First, someone could post a link to np.reddit.com and not be accused of encourging others to vote brigade. Second, it probably does scare away some users from vote brigading. So in that sense, it's an effective tool considering it's not even an official reddit feature.

If you click on a post that directs you to a post within another subreddit, you have no business voting within that subreddit whatsoever. You don't go into your neighbor's house and tell him how to live his life, just because you live next door to him.

If you're going to call the feature "retarded" then why don't you learn programming and write the code that prevents vote brigading?
