That is what it is for. But it is retarded. Do you really think that people that actually want to do a downvote brigade are going to post np links like the one I had? And do you think those people will not notice it, find the original link, and then downvote the shit out of whatever they wanted to downvote?
It's just a stupid feature that makes using the site really annoying. It doesn't help reduce brigading. It helps piss off regular users.

Oh, I am actually totally agreeing with you. I just find that some (many) people are lazy enough that they are easily persuaded from allowing their voice (voat) to be heard.
Worse yet. There is absolutely a typical sub-group of people that are willing to spend the time/energy to do so (I am likely in this category). They tend to be those that are already technical or political.
I do not agree with their system any more than I agree with voat's "100 posts" or whatever system. Got to use you're voice to have a voice? (sounds like a good idea.. Until you piss off the masses wanting to up/down vote something). I am sure it kills off the bots a bit but it is still a crappy solution to a real problem.
There is no current solution that makes this all work out. I want reddit to stop f****** about and own up to being the "free speech platform" that it thought it was. That is not going to happen. I can only hope that voat will do a better job (for a while). When voat goes the same way... They can expect the same treatment.
Internet users(customers) are not invested in any organization/company and are happy to jump ship at a moments notice. This is nothing new. If you want to see a previous example look at what happened with digg. This created the opportunity for reddit to expand rapidly to become what it is today. We are simply making large clusters of users and shifting them around to organizations that we think are looking out for our interests but ultimately end in screwing everyone over.
This may sound absurd but the only real solution is an p2p system that has no central authority. Even this can be screwed into obscurity with enough effort but at least it would be at its own hands rather than at those of a board of trustees.
Features that restrain speech are going to piss people off. Not only that... But features that allow TRUE FREE SPEECH will piss people off. The world is full of things that many of us find to be upsetting or angering. Not every culture can/should agree with you. This is a fact that will most likely always be a factor in social interactions.
The world is a big place. Get over your shit and try to experience it in the best way you can.
Make things better if you have the opportunity. We owe it to everyone else.
[Edit] Oh. I tried to upvote you too. Apparently I am only allowed 10 every 24 hours until I reach magical number XXXX of "karma" or something? FFS. +1 to you. Even though I am not allowed to give it to you at this time.
