I moved over to Voat 3 months ago and the front page was not nearly as vibrant and alive as it has been in like the past 4-5 days. It was stagnant and not generating much new content and I would switch back and forth between reddit and here. But in the past few days Voat has crossed the Rubicon and has become a legitimately better alternative to reddit. The discussions, the community, the quality of content and everything in between is superior. The only time I go back there is to briefly distract myself at work when Voat is down, and it seems like /u/Atko and company has got that shit on lock now atleast until the next wave of migrants hits us.

Agreed, I think the content here is much better. Reddit over the past few days has been like Facebook for me, I'll check in every few hours or wait up to a day or two to finally check it. Browse through the first page or two of posts, get bored with the stupid memes/meaningless posts/rants/etc and then come back to Voat. It'd be nice to have a little more activity here, which should come with time but the comment section of everything isn't filled with puns, stupid jokes and odds are someone will actually see my comment versus it being buried immediately.

I saw your comment and I agree, and you know what, I have to post to tell you because I ran out of upvoats - which I think is genius. Can't just spam an upvote and move on, I agree, I like what you said so I comment and engage - genius.

When the redditless weekend is over I'm going back to get my favourite people. We already had our own sub with blackjack and hookers, but this is going to be better than ever! The best Christmas ever! Sorry got a little carried away. I really hope we can find a way to keep the extreme controversial discussions, I don't agree with e.g. fph, coontown, jailbait etc but I believe in free speech dammit!

Voat is approaching critical mass of having enough fresh content to get the fence-sitters. Also, multiple groups have come here for different reasons, so even with the free expression focus, we have enough different opinions for conversation.

And no more "I'll get downvoted to oblivion for this, but..."

I feel like Voat hasn't created a central hive-mind and you don't get caught up in raining downvotes when someone has a legitimate question or an opinion that doesn't match.

I've noticed its started to flourish now that the bandwidth/site issues have been removed.

Way 2 go Team Voat!

I joined at the right time! Glad they got the site up and running. I tried to check it out last week but couldn't.

Yeah I was worried at first about Voat not being up at all during the whole Victoria thing, but it seems that our patience has paid off!

I have similar feeling about this. When i made Voat account this place was quite stagnant - front pages had couple of 2-3 days old posts. Now all i need for happiness is some sort of similar RES for voat.

RES was a requirement for Reddit because the administrators were so loath to add new features, but Voat is still in Alpha and under active development. Head to /v/ideasforvoat and upgoat RES features you think Voat needs, or start new discussions for them - because it's really backwards that Reddit needed a third-party interface enhancement plugin to be useful in the first place.
