Yall motherfuckers don't know about accounting. This shit doesn't happen instantly like this. Payment gets issued weeks and months after the service is performed. A big buyer can be 6 months behind before vendors start screeching.

Also, ^this.

Or we can all believe it's a vast conspiracy, involving untold numbers of people, and with no realistic benefits.

Snowden revealed that numerous vast conspiracies are true. The public reaction also indicated egregious overreach in mass surveillance will likely never be reigned in no matter how many "untold numbers of people," (data centers, and Internet companies) are involved. No, no, it's all a waste so they can pack in PRISM and offline their massive, non-restrictive databases that have continued to develop since then. They have no realistic benefits.

You'll don't seem to know how shit works either? Seriously, top comment with all upvoats?

I work at a pretty large business and if I foresee a future drop in capital, I would reduce services immediately as to prepare for future expenses. It's not like they didn't know the potential for a government shutdown weeks ago. You do realize accountants have to create budgets with future projections and then plan around that? Do you think they are going to sit around for six months confused about what to do until the day the 3rd bill comes from the service provider with a "final warning" before they take any sort of action? For fucks sake, their entire business is Internet. It's not like Eddit makes a website and sell hotdogs on the side. They do one fucking thing, of course it's going to be a central part of their business model.

You dont work near accounting, thats for sure. Probably not even management with that big of a gaff. The word you are seeking is revenue, earnings, income.

Anyway, no you wouldnt, you would proceed to the next quarter or period of planning before changing your budget, because, as you say, this planning shit is big, and you dont implement new budgets overnight. Well, unless you are incredibly stupid, which reddit might be.

However, this all is based on the assertion that reddit has actually cut their server time, do we know this is true or are we making a guess based on getting error screens and rate limiting? If the latter, I suggest to you that the saturday after a large political event (like a government shutdown) will be a high traffic day, which may be giving you a perception of server shortage that is not reality.

Greed and / or fiscal responsibility will make them proactive. Reedit is still a private company, so if they know future funding is in jeopardy, is there a good reason they wouldn't preemptively scale back services rather than burn through infrastructure funds as normal? While there are various factors to consider, such as growth potential, they can instantaneously adopt a conservative strategy.

The new strategy may be reasonable for a company that likely struggles to remain profitable unless it continually cuts costs and seeks new revenue streams. Government-sponsored activities, especially if they are intense and excessive, may only be tenable as long as your are tapped in the taxpayer's jugular and the flow is never stymied. Like a vampire, they can make the feeding last, but, according to the lore on these bloodsuckers, they never want to experience what comes after the last drop.

Alternatively, a critical part of any strategy they have in place is to hold onto that government contract, and they may even resort to making a show of how their operational budget is stretched thin. They would probably not want to interrupt the service they are providing to the government since that would make it easy for government to lose interest and the program may never be restarted. They also can't be seen to be working for free, so the dog and pony show has to be carefully choreographed. That said, I have no idea what goes on at this company, but you can't pretend you do either.

We have precedent for shutdowns, they are retroactively paid for, no loss of revenue should be expected, especially since it (if it exists) would come from a black budget.

I got banned for saying I was disappointed Trump reauthorized FISA. I know it's all bullshit but getting censored on a place that's so anti-censorship is fucking hilarious.

Sharia Blue has been hyper active the past couple days. It's crazy. All sorts of bullshit getting upvoted that I normally don't see here. Lots of low effort crap in /v/funny. Like a dedicated slide attack. But what is there to hide?
