We are currently seeing a major spike in traffic, but our recent efforts to improve performance (thanks /u/puttitout) as well as the move to cloud infrastructure + investment in DDoS protection is what is holding things together. We don't know how much longer we can sustain this but we are watching and ready to take further action if things start to overheat. We may disable new user registrations for a while, but I hope it doesn't come to that. Also, I am really proud to see solidarity there. People can do great things together, but we sometimes need to be reminded of that.

Thanks for all the great work man. I know how hard it can be to deal with unexpected traffic spikes (had it happen on my own site a while ago).

Any indication how big the spike is?

Perfect.

What's funny is watching voat get mentioned across reddit and seeing people say "NO ITS FULL OF PEDOS I DONT WANT TO GO".

Yes, you stay there on the sinking ship, all of you Facebook crowd.

I have started to get suspicious of how often I'm seeing CP mentioned in connection with Voat. I'm sure not every account over there that says Voat is a haven for CP is malicious but it is starting to feel organised. As I understand it, one sub got a quantity of CP posted to it in a short time period and at that time it was reported to PayPal so they would freeze funds. Now, even after the content was removed and the subs closed as a precaution, I continually see accounts making comments as if the Voat community is allowing illegal material to be shared here.

Disclaimer: I do not defend CP in anyway, I think jailbait is morally reprehensible even if it isn't strictly illegal, I have no proof any organised group is using CP to cripple Voat and smear the site and its users, it is just a theory.

Any mention of Voat on Reddit is instantly being removed. Makes me wonder if I should just PM some of the users about it that are obviously upset about the drama going on...

Meh, let's be cool with anyone migrating here.
So long as they're not serial-reposters or spammers they should feel welcome here.
Or at least, that's just my opinion.

Reddit refugee here- had a few "service unavailable" pages while subscribing to subverses, but refreshing fixed the problem immediately. I imagine the traffic will continue to increase with all the subreddits going private. Anyhow, thanks to all the hard working people keeping voat up and running! And thank goodness for a site without restrictions!
