Or voat could remain an independent site and not a slave to reddit's policies without sharing in the profit... you know... either way.

Mabe a clause that if you are a reddit mod you can't be a voat mod at all would do good for the time being?

It's tricky because not all redditmods are shitmunchers. We don't want to pre-empt a bunch of awesome content because of bad blood.

I'm a subreddit mod for /r/FeedTheCreeper, which has a total of 2 submissions. It's for a Minecraft server I'm an admin on.

But my Reddit name isn't the same as here on Voat. How would you know?

I'd be all for that. It may push a lot of good mods away but we need to get established first.

Jumping in here with my unique insight into this moderator and his attempts to discredit voat over the past 6-8 months.

The mod of /r/oppression eberkneezer was the mod of /r/voat who squatted on this subreddit for several months before the FPH saga he was extremely anti-voat and tried many times to discredit this site all while throwing up the banner of "hey im just neutral in this"

I engaged in arguments over him with for months on /r/voat and suggested that he let in another member of the voat community to co-mod (/r/voat had less than 300 subs back then so it went unnoticed)

In his last sticky as mod of /r/voat he personally called me out as "that crazy guy on voat", I responded with a peace offering.

After nothing but downvotes and silence despite sending private messages to him to reason I decided to dump my full /u/eberkneezer archive and call him out. here is the comment:

READ THIS (my post is at the bottom)

https://archive.is/37310

Here is the original archive from when he was moderator, notice the satanic voat goat:

https://archive.is/DVNIN

He resigned a few hours later........

Did I cause him to resign ? we will never know.

I originally did not want to post this link on Voat as I considered it to be bad form, but after seeing the recent posts I have decided "fuck it"

The link came from /oppression. mods there seem like trolls. They're just doing it because they anticipate admins blanket banning voat.co. So they came up with that bizarre solution.

Honestly, if reddit does blanket ban voat links, (unlikely), and can somehow prevent proxy links from working (I'd say impossible), I'm still cool with it. I love the community here the way it is now.

It's adorable how they think we're actually interested in their "approval." In fact, the moment when Reddit mods start "approving" of this site is the moment it jumps the shark.

Yeah if we start getting mods from reddit coming over here for a power grab I'm gonna find somewhere else to go. This place has been an excellent hangout so far and I'm wondering why I didn't leave reddit sooner. It's almost as if I had Stockholm Syndrome or something. Reddit needs to stay far away from here.

Seems like an (attempt at) satire. Mods are trolling by emulating Pao and jumpy redditors are hungry for bait as shown in exhibit 1:

Our conclusion is that voat's freedom is incompatible with our own freedom (as defined by reddits's rules).

Exhibit 2. From their sidebar:

Content here may be serious or satire. Or whatever you want. We're not tyrants unlike some people

And we all know that satire always works and never backfires. Popcorn, please.

They're srs, they're using the sub to troll people upset with the censorship. Check their moderator lists, they're literally 60 percent srs mods. In the last 15 day /r/oppression added like 6 to 8 new mods, mostly from SRS. Just another sub they've taken over to manipulate reddit.

They ignored Voat, then they made fun of Voat, and now this is the first volley in the new phase, which is to try and move over to Voat. Needless to say, once the powermods get motivated to do it, they will find a way into subverses here, and they will brag about it to their friends, whom they'll also invite in.

This is why it's so critical that the system itself has checks and balances to stop mod abuse, because they're coming, and probably sooner than we're ready for.

Help us, /u/Atko, you're our only hope.

I think non-corrupt moderation is as simple as disallowing the creation of power moderators. This task is placed on current voat moderators when selecting additional moderators. Hopefully current voat moderators recognize the necessity of preventing a group of power moderators to form.

I'm OK with rules to be civil, but not to the extremes that's becoming common. I should be able to call someone a fucktard if they've earned it in the midst of trying to have a genuine debate.

If you're a 9/11 conspiracy nut, I shouldn't be allowed to merely troll you, but I should be allowed to call you out as a scumbag if your beliefs involved you accusing innocent people of murder, being complicit in it, or being too stupid to recognize so called obvious signs of it.

OK Richard Kulisz types of people, but not OK Violentacrez types of people. Both could be harsh, but one was more of a troll, and the other was at least trying to have a genuine debate.

It's not vague, anything is allowed. Don't like it? Go back to reddit. The only things that wont occur here are illegal things, everything else is welcome here and there's a place for it.

You say that like 4chan is a bad thing.

And until there's a way to make anonymous comments it won't be anything like 4chan.

[–] gatordontplaythatsht 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

It's simple really, all default subs should have to rotate mods at a designated time. No one should be able to moderate more than one default, or 5 additional subs that aren't default. I also think that once a sub hits 1000 users or more they should vote for the moderators. This eliminates all power from the moderator role and keeps it as it should be, a servant to the community.

I like this idea, with the possible exception of the voting, as I fear that it'd make the position too politicized. Really it's just a custodial position, and anyone could do it. Perhaps they could have a random lottery, and just go down the list until someone agrees to do it for a while?

Are you serious?

You want to get the admin in to decide who is and isn't supposed to be a mod?

Do you not see what's wrong with that?

[–] Rainy-Day-Dream 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

the users should get to decide everything only atko is above reproach cuz he's cool but there should be functions in place to combat the mods and admins that the users don't like

Mod abuse is one of the biggest issues on reddit. Bigger than the whole FPH / Pao thing if you ask me.

it's more or less the same issue what's the difference between mod abuse and admin abuse?

[–] Amarok 0 points 40 points (+40|-0) ago

I mod a default on reddit and even I have no idea what the fuck they are talking about here.

Are they saying they'll only allow links in /r/oppression that link to voat.co/v/some-approved-subverse? Then they say to get any given subverse on the approval list, you have to add a known reddit default moderator to that subverse?

Is this one of those Poe's law moments? This can't be serious. It must be a joke. My head hurts.

I guess I should thank them for providing a list of subverses that have moderators here from reddit. They missed /v/listentothis, though.

The arrogance of the mod clique at Reddit is beyond the pall.

But, the behavior pattern exhibited is revealing. It shows how the internet is becoming saturated with groups that are clearly engaging in disinformation campaigns. Voat will become another casualty in the disinformation war unless it identifies the Reddit mods who are the worst abusers.

More importantly, the abusive mods at Reddit need disciplinary action against them. And, as a board certified physician who has been subjected to that abuse, I will not halt in my argument opposing Reddit's involvement at Voat or any other similar site.

do not trust ebenekeezer, I can't say anything on reddit because of the new rules, but there is something up with this user. The way he tries to manipulate users, worm his way into mod positions, and tries to stir shit up constantly. it is very familliar behavour of a certain group of people on reddit. They change their usernames but the behaviour and subversive acts are blatently obvious to anyone familliar with them.

These people infiltrate subreddits they don't like, and try to get their guys as top mods, or create new subreddits when new movements/ideas come about, usually to do with occupy type events/censorship/protests/ propaganda/surveillance/news They try to bring down the subreddits from the inside, they make subreddits designed for harrasing/mocking/brigading subreddits and it's users (not lik fph, or any of the events recently).

Really odd behavour, its like they want to control the discussions and how the public thinks, they do what they can to put themselves into postions of power across reddit. This has been happening for many years there, and others will tell you the same.

Now I want to reiterate I am not suggesting this user is doing this, but just be aware there are some strange people on reddit and they do this shit like it's their job. 24/7
