We have had a massive influx of users the past few days. As such, activity has gone through the roof, as well as user diversity and submission rate. All good things!
Along with that came a lot of new opinions and positions. Also a good thing and great for discussion. This post is meant to serve as a welcome to newcomers and as a bit of a prod to help guide discussion.
First, I'm @Genghis_Khan, a 900-year-old ex-emperor who, at my apex, conquered most of the known world and created the largest contiguous land empire in human history! As you may have heard, we are probably related! Isn't that fun? However, my days of sieging and territory grabbing are over. These days I mostly pay modern bills and play on the Internet.
The primary goal of this subverse is to create a place on voat that is specifically designated as the place to discuss current events on reddit. However, this subverse cannot:
- Promote events on reddit
- Take any action on reddit
- Be used as a place to oust or otherwise "hold accountable" anyone at/from reddit (i.e. no doxxing)
- For the time being, promote other subverses that are on the same topic (more on this later)
To be clear, you as the user are free to post about things happening on reddit, which may include events or actions taking place there, but the subverse cannot get behind or endorse any such thing. Remember, we are a subverse on voat. We encourage use of and discussion on voat, even if the discussion is about another site. For this exact reason, you are discouraged from linking directly to reddit.
BTW, np.reddit.com is not a special "non-participation" link and is therefore not a work-around. There are subdomains that are simply regional versions of the site that I suppose should take you to the translated page. The "np" subdomain is for Nepal. Yes, RES just adopted it.
Finally, on promoting other similar subverses. While it is not against the rules to promote your subverse here, please keep in mind that as voat users, we don't want reddit topics spreading throughout the site unless they are particularly relevant. I know it's subtle, but in the end we don't want voat turning into the site people use just to complain about reddit, and therefore we would like to see the stuff that belongs here, in this sub, contained in this sub. Think of this not as a pro-MoR thing, but as a pro-voat thing.
Please use this thread to discuss all of the above as well as to ask any questions. Welcome once again to all the newcomers, I hope you're liking what you've found so far.
Edit: I had to remove the old sticky "try not to link to reddit" post in order to sticky this one. If you are so inclined, please help me (kindly) remind users who slip or don't know. Remember, linking directly is not (and should not be) against he rules, but should only really be done if somehow necessary.
