I like this sentiment. I feel like people forget Reddit and Voat are just websites for fun.

Reddit is no longer a website for fun. It's a website to make money by using certain political/sociological trends.

If you can make fun of it, it doesn't belong in any public forum. Period.

Reddit is basically becoming the new Tumblr, a breeding ground for SJWs. I don't want them here anymore than they want us there. The difference between us is that I don't think they should be banned for saying something I don't agree with, I just don't read what they have to say and move on with my life like an adult.

I don't want them here anymore than they want us there.

The problem is that apart from two small groups (us vs them), 85% of the reddit's users have no freaking idea what is happening.

Remember that most users browse defaults subs for the images or the titles but don't go into the threads to read the comments.

Both of our groups are a very small minority in a website governed, in part, by people who don't really care either way and just want to browse /r/pics while they take a dump.

I agree, I'm pretty sure that most of reddits users don't even have accounts. They "they" I was referring to was just aimed at SJWs, which I feel are growing in number on reddit and I don't think that's an accident, takes the guesswork out of which ads to run.

Personally, I only learned about what happened because I logged on while >90 of the top 100 posts on /r/all were from FPH-copycat subreddits talking about Ellen Pao's evil past or how bad fat people are, and researched why that had suddenly become the case. Without that log-in time, I never would have even known that an announcement had come out.

I'm thinking that's the reason why websites seems to become filled with such empty content after they reach a certain amount of people and it becomes "mainstream". You have a disproportionate amount of users who aren't invested in the community in the same way as the people that actually contribute and engage in discussion.

I do believe there must be ways to halt that kind of development though.

Most of my friends who are on reddit that I've talked to recently just want the whole thing to blow over. Aside from myself about 1 out of 10 of my redditing friends care about what's going on one way or the other.

Ideas need to be subject to open criticism because the bad ideas will be torn apart by the masses. You don't need censorship if the ideas are bad. If they're good, well you get fatpeoplehate spreading all over reddit and coming over to voat.

[–] gnarchar 0 points 1 point (+1|-0) ago

Completely agree, but I would like to add that people should be able to decide which ideas are good and bad, which is why I left reddit. SJWs have a tendency to seek out things to get offended by, like fatpeoplehate, then whine until it's banned instead of simply not looking at it and tolerating their differing viewpoint.

I recently left tumblr because I couldn't speak a damn opinion without being outcast in any sort of community. Trust me that reddit is no where near the level of blind social justice that tumblr is at. There is a feel of variation of ideaology that is felt on reddit vs. tumblr. Users censor on tumblr where as administrators were censoring on reddit. If it were a truly open forum and there wasn't interference from higher ups, reddit would be much better. But they fucked that up.

How you described Tumblr basically sounds like how SJWs want the actual world to be, not surprised at all. I agree that reddit is nowhere near that level of fuckery right now, but it's heading more and more in that direction. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they roll out user-controlled censoring feature in the near future to help make it a "safe place."

I find this pretty funny. IIRC, r/ainbow got started after SJWs took over r/lgbt, and started implementing 'safe space' policies. r/ainbow just wanted free speech. Those who don't know their own history...

According to the rules of /r/ainbow, all illegal content is supposed to be brought to the attention of the mods... but homosexuality is illegal in quite a few places.

Think about it though, the only reason these people know voat exists is from fph coming here. They don't know that there is an entire community here separate from it.

If somebody told you a new club was opening up in town and said it was great, but you went there on the evening of a massive sports event and it was full of assholes just that one night, it would be the same deal.

In any case, those people are the reason I'm here anyway.

I think most can differentiate the two. I wasnt part of FPH at all. I came here because I was tired of reddit already. The mods/admins influence over everything and driving the content. This was the last straw.

On top of all that this controversy caused FPH content to spill into all subs destroying content across the board.

Now I am here in hopes that VOAT can offer what I am looking for with in regards to content site. I have yet to decide and honestly still looking for other communities. This has the most potential by far though.

Same here. I kind of took it for granted that everyone understood the reddit defectors weren't "FPH people looking for somewhere else to be dicks" but folks trying to ditch a community that doesn't support unrestricted dialogue in favor of one that does.

On the other hand, taking it for granted that "everyone understood" tends not to work out very well, regardless of context.

Oddly, I've been frequenting 4chan the most since this whole thing began. I like voat because the layout is familiar but it's still pretty slow and I frequented smaller subs more often so the community is nearly nonexistent here.

I saw all this blowing up on reddit, then later I was informed of Voat via the moderator of Koans, when i looked into what he was about i thought I should check this place out. I have never subbed to FPH and have only gone when cross linked. I don't particularly care if someone wants to be fat or skinny, just shut the fuck up about it and focus on a real problem, like the god damned US government.

So the fact that 1/3 of people in the US are obese and 70% are overweight is just fine and dandy?

Good to have you here OnlyHalfGay! About87%Gay here, it's great to see more and more LGBT people coming over. Its about time we have a place with some representation that isn't dominated by SJW lunatics

I don't know about this. There's so many different camps and groups of SJWs that I really don't think it can be said they have an agenda as a mass.

I responded nothing more than, "You obviously haven't been there" to someone saying that. The fact that I received a single downvote confirmed it.

I posted something in another thread on the same community to see if that would automatically get downvoted as well. It didn't, and got upvoted by one person... but going back through 3 days worth of posts I made in that community before the Voat Exodus one, I received votes like 7, 9, 11 and 12. I was only downvoted on 1 thread, and I'm assuming that was someone coming from somewhere else, because the thread was a link to a major newspaper for the largest city in Canada.
