You better believe Coca-Cola has paid shills on reddit.

tons of them, they always have some bullshit ad posed as some OC that's supposed to be funny or interesting that gets to the top all of the time

It's stupid easy to create bots for reddit and upvote and downvote stuff. The shills they have probably have a nuke this comment/post button and raise this comment/post button.

Coke is one of the higher paying companies in terms of advertisements. There's a reason you see Coke before every movie you view.

Remember when the whole point of going to the movie theater was specifically to get to watch a movie on a big screen without ads? Went to see a movie a week ago (first one in years) and was fucking agape. How can people be okay with it? Why the fuck would you pay money to have fucking Coca-Cola commercials blaring max-volume in to your ear? "DRINK OUR BEETUS DRANK. BE COOL LIKE THESE PEOPLE. OUR SUGAR WATER WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY. DON'T YOU WANNA BE #AWESOME?"

I, then and there, made a resolution never to go to the theater again. Not happening. Not worth it; there's a few locally owned, independent cinemas in my town, so might give them a call to confirm whether or not they play commercials before movies. Otherwise, fuck that noise.

The sources don't look stellar. Maybe check for peer reviewed at pubmed. Reddit gets boners if they think science says so. Usually news articles get slated and refuted somehow in the top comment.

There is a great amount of willful ignorance and outright not reading about the subject or just trying to sound smart about a subject they know little about. It boggles my mind the amount of upvote because of feels that go on Reddit that it has turned me off of any serious subject. I will reply to a thread in a clear concise explanation with sources and be downvoted to -5+ . The culture that permeated reddit is a bad one for sure as it has became a toxic place for discussion.

Voat is exactly the same way, just with different ideologies and biases. You really think people on Voat don't just upvote based on the title of an article they never read? Or downvote someone whom they think is a shill/SJW?

There's no group or setting where people won't dismiss ideas they don't agree with.

Redditors are awful and Voaters are awful, just in different ways, because people are awful.

I really hate how they add it to canned fruit and jams.

I'll be wanting just the natural flavor, and get the "Sugar Free" and it's super sweet from them adding aspartame.

[–] 8Hz_WAN_IP 0 points 10 points (+10|-0) ago

tastes like shit too, its not just super sweet but has a very different unnatural taste to me.

[–] firex726 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Exactly my issue. Strawberries, peaches, etc... they are all sweet enough, adding aspartame on top of it just makes it taste like candy.

[–] senpaithatignoresyou 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

I feel the same way. It is getting to the point that i am contemplating canning my own fruit, as i find the stuff in the store to be too sweet.

You just have to scour the back of everything you buy now. Usually the cheapest of an item takes shortcuts like adding aspartame, so you have to spend a little more to get non-toxic food.

Yes I consider aspartame toxic.

Its fucking deplorable that nearly every food product has some bullshit added to it. Its either high fructose, aspartame, splenda, or some other shit that ruins an otherwise decent product and makes it taste like shit.

It's reddit. It's not what you say but how you say it. Even if you are right, if you phrase it in a way that bruises their fragile egos you will get downvoted into oblivion.

I don't really care about the facts. All I know is that all fat people drink lots of diet soda. That's all I need to know. Besides, I only really drink water, wine and beer anyway. Occasional smoothies.

I don't really care about the facts. All I know is that all fat people drink lots of diet soda. That's all I need to know.

And people with infections take antibiotics. Does that mean antibiotics cause infections?

Fat people drink diet soda because they're fat and don't want to gain more weight. They didn't get fat because of diet soda - it's physically impossible. Diet soda has 0 calories. It would violate the 1st law of thermodynamics if it caused weight gain.

If you really want to make that analogy, you might want to check your facts. Antibiotics do actually cause infections in certain cases

I believe it's possible that the sweetener may interfere with endocrine function but your 'correlation does not imply causation' point seems reasonable.

Artificial sweeteners contained in diet soda (and any "zero sugar" product) keeps the addiction active. And because you aren't as much satisfied as with a regular soda, you'll crave for more sweet junk earlier.

If you really want to stop gaining weight (or better, lose some), the first step is to eliminate sweetness from your diet, artificial or not.

Diet soda has 0 calories. It would violate the 1st law of thermodynamics if it caused weight gain.

The only hole in this is that the definition of "0" to the federal government is defined by a limit. If it doesn't exceed a certain amount of calories under a limit, it is "defined" as zero. I remember this from the documentary "Fed Up" and can't find anything supporting it on Google but I am fairly certain that it is impossible for material in your gut to literally have 0 calories. I believe the limit is anything less than 20 or so calories per serving that can effectively be whitewashed as "0."

Magic.

I don't really care about the facts.

Then why are you commenting? Why are you even here? Why add your opinion to a conversation if you are openly stating that you are willfully blind?

Diet soda doesn't cause weight gain. It's the other stuff they eat that does.

I'm surprised you'd didn't post the links here yourself.

Aspartame is horrible for you and is the artificial sweetener they use in Diet Coke.

http://www.healthline.com/health/aspartame-side-effects

http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancercauses/othercarcinogens/athome/aspartame

http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/healthy-eating/5-reasons-aspartame-is-bad-for-you.html

Plus, there are plenty of studies that show "diet" drinks don't cause people to lose weight, and in fact, contribute to people gaining MORE weight.

http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20739512,00.html

I'd also point out that you haven't read the articles you linked. The first three are simple rehashes of wikipedia. Aspartame is GRAS, NBD.

Fourth says diet soda "may send your body into fat storage mode," whatever that means, and that it's addictive and makes you feel bad (not that those are contradictory).

Fifth is a slideshow that I can't stand navigating through, but is a rehash of what we all should already know: that fat, unhealthy people with diabetes correlate with diet soda consumption. So you should avoid it, too (?).

Aaand your post doesn't even have much to do with the OP you replied to. So, please, look at yourself critically before blaming the world for ignoring your opinions.

Aspartame is literally one of the most clinically tested food additives that have ever existed and they've never found anything concrete beyond minor outlier cases in mice treated with massive doses.

I get horrible headaches from it too. It's weird, for a while it didn't affect me, and then one day after a diet coke I just had a raging headache all day. Then I started getting them every single time I had one. I really never get headaches, and I rarely drink soda, so it only took a few times for me to figure out what was causing them. That can't be good. No more of that shit for me.

I always avoid aspartame . Now a days almost every single brand of gum has it . I don't eat gum often but i notice when i went flying that i couldn't find a brand of gum without aspartame .

[–] ElspethTirel [S] 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Gum with aspartame tastes HORRIBLE. "Sugar free" gum tastes like something is wrong with it, and that's the aspartame.

There's a documentary called sweet misery that's very good and that Donald Rumsfeld connections to Aspartame made him and his friends very rich .

What is wrong with aspartame? I'm too lazy to read up on it.

[–] selpai 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

And that there's the kicker. When you chew aspartame containing gum, the substance goes right into your bloodstream, through the gums. It's not digested, and it's not broken down.
