This is a moderated community.
The goal is to encourage people to approach mathematics in a fashion that makes it accessible. In order to do this, we're going to need a few basic rules.
- Try to be on topic.
- Be civil.
- No drama.
Pretty simple, huh? Yeah... I reduced them to the lowest common denominator. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Off-topic is tolerated to some extent. Submissions should all be about mathematics, or clearly relate to mathematics. However, once you get into the comments section, it's a much looser standard. Discourse is encouraged, so long as civility is maintained. Good conversations tend to meander around topics and that's perfectly acceptable.
If you do vote, concentrate on promoting content and not downvoting content. Encourage and comment, if you see something that could use improvement. Downvotes don't convey very much information and aren't really helpful. If you must, you must... But try to assume the person making the post was just communicating poorly. Try to assume the best possible interpretation of their post.

I've now fired off a few emails to start the investigation by a body of peers. If we see confirmation of plagiarism, which it does look like, we will file a formal complaint.
Do your own research!
Yeah, we don't get much excitement in this discipline.

lol. Well good on ya for catching this.

I only noticed 'cause I'd read the paper back in December. I was like, "Hey! This looks familiar."
Worse, I couldn't remember the title so it took me a bit to find it again - only to finally figure out that they'd even used the same title. They're too close to be a coincidence.

Ask TurnItIn to verify it.

It's already been pushed into the official faculty investigations. I have a number of peers who remain in academia. So, today I ruined someone's academic career - potentially. (Damned near certainly - if you look at the two bodies of work.)
We have a citation process, plagiarism has no excuses. To outright take work and claim it as your own? That has no place in academia. So, unless there's a very, very strange misunderstanding - I ruined someone's entire academic career today. Strangely, I don't feel bad about it.

You exposed a fraud

All of those names look like mudslimes, they're probably all plagiarized from someone else.

You probably don't care but, at least until fairly recent history, a goodly amount of our mathematics has come from Arabia and much of this was done during the times of the Muslim empires. One such example is a fella named Al Gabr. You may recognize that we named a whole discipline after him, called Algebra.
It was through Arabia that we got the numerals we use today, though those began in what's now known as India. We call them Arabic numbers, but they are really Hindu-Arabic numbers. Another such advancement would be what we call 'algorithms.'
For whatever reasons, they no longer seem quite so keen on education, but the planet's center of learning used to be in Baghdad. Acedmia flourished for many generations there.

Correction, a good amount of mathematical knowledge came from places that muslims conquered (Greece, Egypt, Babylon, Persia, India). When muslims stopped conquering they stopped advancing scientifically.

So, what you're saying is that the plagiarism goes back about 1400 years.
