In Aikido, we were taught to block with the upper wrist, but with the pinky finger side of the hand and the ulna as acceptable variations. This guy's method seems similar but harder to execute.

In boxing we sometimes use hands to block.... covered in a giant padded glove.

In all seriousness, I'm not sure. I don't even think they discussed hand blocks in krav maga, even though you keep your hands open for grappling.

If you meant more traditional martial arts then just ignore me.

When I studied Tang So Do, palm blocks were covered in higher ranks ... I've seen them used in other styles. The guy in the video references Tai Chi and I believe Ba Gua Zhang also uses palm blocks.

Outside of the palm blocks I learned in my first dojo (more than a few years ago), I haven't really encountered them. I like how this guy interprets them though and the look much more practical than what I covered all those years ago.
