I really like this idea of convergence. I've always looked forward to the day that a cellphone can double up as a desktop. However, I think that Ubuntu has it completely backwards here. In my mental image of convergence, cellphones become more like desktops computers, not the other way around. Instead, what Ubuntu is doing is making desktop computers more like cellphones. This really explains to me why over the last few years, the once awesome Ubuntu has become so dumbed down that it's insulting to dumb people.

It's like we're not actually ready for the point of convergence yet but they're trying to trick us into thinking we are by lowering everything down to a common denominator and hoping we'll forget that once upon a time we could use their desktop OS for more then just listening to music and surfing the web.

Yeah that's kind of what I meant. Right now I think convergence is still the idea but it's also still a marketing type buzz word at the moment. I suppose we could really call this phone coming out now phase one. Because until we have desktop computers in our pockets, it's not really true convergence. In fact I suspect it won't be too different to running an Android emulator on PC.

I'm happy that this is happening, I just don't believe yet that it's going to be everything they are marketing it as.
