I've never used a Linux OS before, I decided to try out Ubuntu 14.04 after reading and watching numerous reviews.
After a couple hours of troubleshooting installation and Grub menu issues I got it to work.
I have to say it was quite fun even though it was frustrating at first.
I'm doing a dual boot Win 8.1 and Ubuntu, so far no issues that I can see since I fixed the grub menu not populating.
Anywho I really like it but do you guys have any suggestions on programs, things I should learn/know, tips, etc?
I frequently torrent media, I use Usenet, edit and create videos, and play a lot of CSGO. Hoping I can do all of that on Ubuntu and eventually fully switch.
Edit: btw I'm sorry if this is the wrong subverse
Update: I broke it :D
Did fresh install trying again. For some reason my graphics drivers weren't well liked.

I've begun to go through this guide it looks extremely useful thank you! I've been using terminal this morning to install programs, and man is it different than Windows. Despite having to double check what you've typed into it, it's so much easier than Windows already (that whole wrong version/clean install not working, wrong directory b.s.). I'm looking forward to getting into advanced administration/customization once I get the basics down over the next couple of weeks.

Exactly this. Start learning scripting. It is the most powerful thing on *nix.
