I don't know the intricacies of JPEG too well, but I imagine every time you stitch two together, you're losing image quality (correct me if I'm wrong). I would first convert everything to PNG or another lossless format, and then use imagemagick on those files instead.

Yes, but is it still the case if you append two images? Since there is no overlap of pixels, wouldn't it be possible to adapt the algorithm to avoid additional loss of information? If not that, then at least restrict the loss to the edges of the images?

Now that you've mentioned it, could the same thing hold for appending two MP3s?
