so how do I get this on Mint? Will the packages in the repo push out libre5, or do I have to install it separate from 4.x?

You can install it via their PPA. This is the "Fresh" PPA, which is always the latest stable version.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libreoffice
Edit: fixed typo
tried, but the one already installed seems to take over :S
