Pandoc is pretty darn awesome. I recently used it to assemble a professional-looking ePub short novel from markdown source. I have two wishlist items:

  • I wish it could output a nice, typeset PDF without going through LaTeX (I really dislike LaTeX). I've played around with a @media print stylesheet + HTML, but browsers still aren't advanced enough typeset engines for this job (images split across pages, widows, bad spacing, no support for headers/footers, etc.). Maybe in a few more years this will be viable.
  • I really wish I could add CSS classes to more document elements, especially paragraphs and images. I have to drop to HTML too often, which limits my output options.
