Ah thanks! It's not looking good though. I would love to be able to say fuck windows 10, but it's a deal breaker if I can't run all the software I need to work.
Thanks for the link. Not very helpful though. He lists a bunch of Open Source programs which is cool, but they are all kinda shitty when it comes down to doing real work. I need to be able to use the industry standard programs.
I know at least Maya and Unity work fine natively on Linux. Blender (3D modeling) and Inkscape (vector graphics) are as much industry standard as any of the other software that you mentioned.
Eh thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like Linux would push me too far outside my comfort zone. Might still install Linux on my laptop to get acquainted, but the workstation still gonna have to run horrible windows.

Use appdb.winehq.org for checking wine compatibility.
There's also some good open-source apps, like Krita, Inkscape, Blender, etc.
Unity and Unreal supports Linux too.

Thanks, but wasn't looking for alternatives. I was wondering if I can use the standards. I need Max not Blender.

You might want to look at other digital artists that have gone from windows to linux, like this guy here.

Then your options are to run it with wine. Take a look at WineHQ to see if you can run your preferred program in an emulator.

You can always run windows inside a VM to get the windows only programs you need while leaving the rest of the system running linux.
