Spam filtering is statistics. Would anyone else here assume that Linus is an outliers? I can't imagine anyone else that would have email to compare against for Linus.
The real problem is that he's an important exception that Google indirectly depends on. If anyone should require a manual test against new Spam rules, this is the guy.
That's exactly what I thought when I read the email. I also imagine as he marks things as not spam, that it will help improve the results in the future.

Poor Linux is getting emails for every corner of the globe, probably in at least two different languages. Teaching Spam filters to ignore kernel patches is really only useful for a handful of people, important people, but very few. As much as Google depends on Linux working, they could easily afford task a few interns to just manually sort his mail.
We use gmail for work and I am getting some missed stuff once I checked out spam. Funny enough emails from google themselves are getting marked as spam.

Gmail's spam filter is really aggressive towards e-mail coming from low-volume domains. I imagine many kernel hackers use their own domain for their e-mail so they'll often end up tagged as spam for no other reason. It's really annoying and another reason not to use Gmail.
I use my gmail for a general dump address when I need it to say, sign up for something online. Everything else goes to either my personal domain or another non gmail address I have set up.

I use gmail, and run two organisations with over 100 employees each on Google Apps. I am not getting anything like what Linus is saying.

Those emails have no advertising value, they are garbage.
