I have avoided joining Twitter because of privacy concerns. But because so much information of the news is found on Twitter, I finally broke down and opened a Twitter account so I can comment on other Tweets.
When I set up my account I purposely refrained from giving my phone number, and used an alt email account instead. After getting set up I was playing with the follow and trying to figure out the unfollow. Within minutes my new account was locked and I had to prove I was a human and not a bot. To re-open the account I had to give my phone number - there was no option for my email - to get a new access code.
I am really mad. I almost decided to just forget the account, but I checked to see if I could still read other people's twitter feed. Instead it always brought me to the locked page. So without giving my phone number, I could not even read other people's tweets.
I think this is a con job. First, to force me give my phone number, which can then doxx me, and second, to capture my IP address. Am I wrong in my thinking?

I am half inclined to delete the account and change my phone number.
