I am wondering, do Linux kernel developers do it for the contribution points? Or do they keep on committing because that is their comfort zone and are scared to start from scratch to a level of a n00b?

I always thought that if you are a good coder, you take a Raspberry Pie, erase the Linux that drives it and create your own OS from scratch. Of course you don't get contribution points and no one sees your committed code. You can't brag on how good you are.

I think that they do it because they want the world to see that people can do something great and not have pay with their souls to get it done.
