I can smell the spyware from here.

Does the end user license agreement say they will upload your entire hard drive and sell its contents on the open market? How about unilaterally deleting any files they feel may be pirated? Or are these "benefits" reserved only for their windows 10 customers.

I always thought it should be Extend. Embrace. Extinguish.

As in. "Extend" an olive branch. "Embrace" your enemy. "Extinguish" them... The way he means it is probably slightly different then how I picture it.

Edit: I saw the explanation about the saying lower in the thread, it is different then how I imagined it. Makes sense though.

We have moved on to the Extend phase of the Microsoft Triple E strategy.

In all honesty I don't think embrace, extend and extinguish are possible with the GNU and open source, given the vast fragmentation of the market, software, forks, etc... It's just Microsoft trying to make a few bucks but realizing that Windows is absolute garbage so they have to look elsewhere.

You could have said the same thing about any of the other times they did this, Troll.

Just makes it harder. Not impossible.

Crazy. With all the expected backwards compatibility I don't expect them to do a Linux desktop release anytime soon, but they did add some Ubuntu stuff to their powershell recently? Linux creep is real.

Wrong date mate, 17 days later for April's fools. They just were late to the party ;-):-P:-P

So, is this april fool BS? Also "embrace, extend, extinguish"

That, is real https://image.slidesharecdn.com/jeffreyhenning-festivalofnewmr-2014-150506090351-conversion-gate01/95/jeffrey-henning-festival-of-new-mr-2014-14-638.jpg

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguish

"Embrace, extend, and extinguish",[1] also known as "Embrace, extend, and exterminate",[2] is a phrase that the U.S. Department of Justice found[3] was used internally by Microsoft[4] to describe its strategy for entering product categories involving widely used standards, extending those standards with proprietary capabilities, and then using those differences to disadvantage its competitors.

They might do a split Os. Linux bass for the masses and keep NT going for enterprise. Windows is still the best for enterprise.

I hate MS.

I'm not so sure. Maintaining two separate OSes with differing code bases is probably more effort than Microsoft would be willing to put up with.

Given the insider stories we have heard over the years, it is clear the Microsoft's source code is a complete and utter fucking mess. They may be trying to get away from that monstrosity. After all, Microsoft sees their future profits coming largely from subscription based O365 and Azure services. Maintaining an OS is becoming less profitable for them.

This makes sense. They can't kill Linux, so why not make money off of it? And good luck trying to squeeze Windows into any kind of micro architecture.
