Yesterday I was thinking about a national brand of computer hardware, specialized but not limited to laptops

100% linux compliant, state owned and independant in its decision process, decisions driven by the national linux community, components built and assembled in the country

Not to necessarily produce state oft he art machines, but good machines, like, just fine, in the 200/500 bucks range

Like an x205ta but without proprietary driver issues for instance

State owned and independent... now there is an oxymoron.

yeah I know

Even institutions supposed to be independent have been proven to be not that independent

state owned

Why on earth would you want that? No way a national quango would make computers that cheap without needing massive subsidies.

They can't make computer cheap to begin with without relying on foreign factories, for obvious reasons

nice

Didn't know it existed

Still, components are mostly made in china, but granted, it's better than nothing at all for people that don't want to "hand everything to china"

...

That said, my initial train of thoughts wasn't strictly limited to the US, it's rather in a broader nationalistic oriented perspective

I like this one

You might look at https://puri.sm/. Tad pricey - but very security focused.
