My stance on backports: don't do it. If you are going to backport a ton of shit from the newer kernels, then just update the entire kernel.
Don't keep your distro on 3.16 while adding shit from the 4 series as "backports".

Aside from the obvious that its non-systemd I'm curious to hear your reasoning to justify such a switch
Did you have some issues with systemd, the old kernel, a principle based decision, or is devuan doing something else that is benefical for your case?

I would think that systemd would be sufficient reason.
