Oh, I remember that, now that you mention it. I just went back and read about it, it seems like it was for one day on February 20, 2016. That's some bad luck to have downloaded that day. Apparently the hackers were able to have modified the hash values as well.

Probably the thing a few months ago with some of their official downloads being hacked and compromised.

Not the OS it self the "company" that is distributing it read the link below. http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/us/security/news/cybercrime-and-digital-threats/linux-mint-website-hacked-iso-downloads-replaced-with-a-backdoor So they basically had nothing in place to detect this and if you dig deeper you'll see more internal issues there.
