I gave up on Mint after they showed how little they cared about security.... Arch is my go to.

Probably the thing a few months ago with some of their official downloads being hacked and compromised.

Not the OS it self the "company" that is distributing it read the link below. http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/us/security/news/cybercrime-and-digital-threats/linux-mint-website-hacked-iso-downloads-replaced-with-a-backdoor So they basically had nothing in place to detect this and if you dig deeper you'll see more internal issues there.
