Before you update, note that it comes with systemd.

Also note there is an alternative:
I'm currently running Devuan & Mate, and it is far and away cleaner and faster than Mint.
Now, the install is not as nice, many of the tools are more complex, but all in all, it's largely been an upgrade for me.
Highly recommended.
