KDE: System requirements: x86 processor (Linux Mint 64-bit requires a 64-bit processor. Linux Mint 32-bit works on both 32-bit and 64-bit processors). 2GB RAM 10 GB of disk space (20GB recommended). DVD drive or USB port

Really, as long as your hardware is still relevant for even the most basic tasks you shouldn't need to worry about which Mint versions are more taxing. I would say screen resolution even has more bearing on desktop performance than which desktop environment is selected.

Stop using Firefox-derivative browsers. And I'm not just poo-poo'ing on Mozilla -- I was a FF fanboy for many, many years -- it simply lags behind its Chromium-based brethren in speed and footprint size.

I use firefox because my comp can handle it so I cant give recommends really. If you really tight on resources stay away from Firefox/Chromium and look up lightweight browsers for Linux and you'll find plenty.
