This isn't necessarily restricted to feminism. The Millennial Generation and the current collegiate youth are determined to paint themselves as Patrons of Social Equality, but fail to grasp the complex issues at hand.
They continually make spectacles of themselves in the name of some purported greater good, but when questioned about what that greater good entails, or what they're symbolically representing, they fall silent because they failed to educate themselves on the particular issue.
They want to be seen as educated, well-informed, activists fighting for a worthy cause, but never seem to put in the necessary work to warrant such characteristics or labels. They would much rather parade around with mattresses on their heads or change their social media pictures to that of one with a rainbow tint, than actively fight for equality. It's far easier to award themselves with a false sense of accomplishment through arbitrary acts of alleged protest than it is to organize and pursue real avenues for change.
