Google - Liberal: open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values.
Wikipedia - Liberalism, is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality. The former principle is stressed in classical liberalism while the latter is more evident in social liberalism.
In a discussion like this I find it helpful to remind people of the chart
Voat is made up of mostly people from the bottom half of that chart. The top is represented, but not as much as the bottom.
Because of its association with the authoritarian left, classic liberals on vote often get some undeserved hostility. But there are many of us here. We came for a number of reasons. Solidarity with those who were ousted, the desire to get away from a hive that only allowed the 'correct' brand of liberalism, or just the desire to contribute to something new and not commercial.
I think it is time we had a sub we could call home. I looked around for an existing one, but all I could find were abandoned subs, or ones being squatted on by sjws. There are a couple good niche subs, but none of a general nature.
So I made /v/LiberalGoats. I would like this place to become a catch-all sub for liberal related discussion and links. All brands of liberalism will be welcome, even the ones I'm not a big fan of.
Non-liberals are also welcome to participate, I just ask that you check any hostility at the door.
Rules. To start with there will be only the Voat site-wide rules. I will add additional rules as they become necessary. I will try to keep the rule set as small as possible, and it will be used only to facilitate conversation and structure of the sub. No rules will be made to enforce any particular outlook or opinions.
To any non-liberals who may be concerned about allowing us to get a foot-hold here, I ask that you remember that many of us were at your side, supporting you when you were targeted for censorship. We even backed the /v/niggers crowd when it was maliciously taken over. We're not a threat. We're allies with different views. There is room for us all on Voat.
So what do you think? Is this one of my rare good ideas? Or just another highdea that will fade away when the smoke clears?
