Hey, just wanted to give this place a bump and introduce myself. I'm new to Voat recently, and I'm trying to find my fit.
I've been learning Japanese in my down time at work for a couple of months, so I'm still really, really green. I'm pretty well down pat on Kana and recently have been starting on learning the Jouyou kanji. Progress got halted a little bit by a couple of big projects at work and home, but the dust has been knocked off and study has resumed.
I'll say that I got a bit discouraged and felt set back when I got behind on my Anki reviews, and couldn't keep up with the pace. I reset the decks I was working on, and feel better now.
I know that I need to start listening to native speech to get an idea of the proper sounds in my head, but honestly I've not felt comfortable enough asking anyone to help, out of fear of wasting their time (or being judged, criticized, or the like on /r/learnjapanese). Being how Voat is, the fact that participation is encouraged so much, I feel more "allowed" to partake here. I still feel like I need more time to learn kanji, and some on- and kun-, but I feel less out of place. I found this thread yesterday, and I am going to start down that path.
Finally, putting this up on a board somewhere gives me a some feeling of accountability too, so please ask and egg me along (if that's not too much to ask). And if you've made it this far, thank you for your time. I hope I can fit in here and get where I want to be.
