There is no Maxis, only Zuul...errr EA. EA shut down Maxis a few months ago right?

You mean they're not even going to use the brand anymore? To me the separate company becomes nothing more then a brand the moment it's swallowed by one of these others. When you look at it that way it's almost as if EA and Take Two and a select few others are the only large gaming companies left. I can't remember all the players anymore but from the last time I looked into it a little, the only two companies from yesteryear still in existence that haven't been swallowed or been doing the swallowing are Bethesda and Codemasters. Although didn't I hear something about Bethesda not really being Bethesda anymore?

Depends on the type of acquisition. And ZeniMax owns Bethesda, so its not like Bethesda is an independent developer or anything. They are at the mercy of shareholders, including people like Donald Trump, Les Moonves, Cal Ripken Jr. and Jerry Bruckheimer. Also, ZeniMax acquired Id, so they are part of the "problem" of centralization. Which I don't think is necessarily a problem...Having guys like Cal Ripken tell a developer which games to make is the real issue. Centralization makes that easier, but not inevitable. It's a pretty interesting time to keep an eye on this stuff.

I don't know, they closed down the main Maxis studios, so I am not sure why they would. They have kind of screwed up the "Sim-whatever" franchise for the most part since they bought Maxis.
