In order to protect my feelings, your own life and family must be forfeit.

Feminist logic at its worst and finest.

All that matters

These are astonishing repercussions given that it’s not alleged he ever threatened either woman (or any other, according to the testimony of the Toronto Police officer, Detective Jeff Bangild, who was in charge) or that he ever sexually harassed them. Indeed, Elliott’s chief sin appears to have been that he dared to disagree with the two young feminists and political activists.

Thats it folks, Crazy has done it again, to disagree is to harass...... according to some.

You can't disagree with women - it's like telling a small child that it's stupid. And forbid you correct their shitty logic - that's like forcing your boner of knowledge into their innocent ignorance.

The problem really seems to be just how leftwing Canada has gotten. I'm Scandinavian, so that's saying something. I'm so used to hearing that Canada is basically "America's Scandinavia", and sharing welfare models with Scandinavian countries is always good for the citizens of a country, but it seems like they've coupled what is meant by "leftwing" in Scandinavian terms, and how radically leftist that might seem to the US, with what "radically leftist" means in the US.

I'm not denying I could expect something similar out of Sweden (I really, really would expect a similar story to come out Sweden in the future), but there are other Scandinavian countries than Sweden. If you look up to a Scandinavian country, maybe just maybe don't choose the one that's hurling itself of the deep end of crazy town.

It's important to note that we actually have a conservative government in power. Now I'm not one to use conservative pejoratively (I'm fiscally right wing after all) but our right wing party is a union of two older parties, one fiscally right and the other socially right. So while we still have Gay marriage and abortions there's plenty of lip service being paid to pro lifers and such.

Without getting too into details that would make it impossible for me to be unbiased, in many ways Canada is far more right wing than the United States. We're just really painfully PC.

[–] AngryArmour 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Really? Because considering your welfare system seems to actually work, I'd assumed you were more left than the US is most respects. "Painfully PC" is something I can definitely see in Canada, and Sweden as well for that matter. While Denmark still has a religious right that is bit focused with PC-ness, most of Denmark would probably revolt if politicians started badmouthing comedic movies just because they feature child suicide, mentally-handicapped people and cannibalism.

The title here is very misleading. This is still under trial and the police say no harassment ever took place. The real embarrassment is how the judge keeps entertaining this nonsense. There is no possible way he will do jail time for this but yes, he did lose his job; few details on that.

I am fully aware there is no verdict yet, but it has to be understood according to which law he is being prosecuted, and from what I understand, and both what the law makes illegal, and how vague it is. To put it bluntly, from what I understand he is not being prosecuted for* sending threats*, but for being threatening. While superficially similar, the difference between the two has vast connotations due to vagueness.

Canada is extreme left even from the perspective of someone from an extreme left country like Sweden. The welfare part of the scandinavian model is good, but the feelz before realz bit is bad. Other scandinavian countries aren't as bad as Sweden.

Some people got scared of words, so some other people in charge of people with guns used force on the person who said the words. Up for grabs: were the words "reasonably" scary? Depends on the point of view... apparently in Canadistan, some animals are more equal than others.

Two women tried to publicly shame a video game developer.

This other completely different guy, who was previously their friend and had created free artwork for their feminist group, said that hurting the developer wasn't appropriate behavior.

In retaliation they met with other feminists to discuss how they should pretend to be 13 year olds to get him arrested for pedophilia, and ran a coordinated smear campaign that resulted in him losing his job. He's the father of 4 children, but now unemployed.

These are true SJWs. They claim to be fighting for social justice, but in reality they use Twitter armies to hurt people and elevate their own social status.

Why would a prosecutor bring a case like this? Though I may dislike it, I can handle the BS complaints from a couple feminist activists. But how can a government official charged with enforcing the law actually spend government resources on it?

More than that I'd want to know what the circumstances were surrounding the arrest. The arresting officer testified that the guy didn't threaten them. So why the fuck did he arrest him? It's not like the tweets were hidden in his house and required a search warrant to find or anything.

0
3

[–] Broc_Lia 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

So why the fuck did he arrest him?

Presumably to interview him. I'm guessing it's a point of procedure there that you can't just ask someone in for questioning if they're being charged with a serious crime.

[–] Thisismyvoatusername 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

I'd imagine the charges were filed first and so he was then arrested in order to be booked into the system so he could be arraigned.

Because, if I'm not mistaken, this is one of the first times the anti-cyber bullying law has actually gone to court, period. There's no case law around this. If there's no case law, there's no president to follow.

Even if they think it's spurious or dumb personally, if there's no case law... Well, some has to be generated at some point, so the wheels have to turn. This is how precident gets generated.

Then sues for "harassment" on Twitter. It doesn't sound like she has a very strong case...
