The article still points to his "controversial comments" despite the fact that it's been proven he said nothing controversial at all.

The narrative is that even if he was joking, he was still being a bigot and deserved it. From the article:

Michael Arthur, the provost of UCL, said in a statement last week that Hunt’s remarks “do contradict the basic values of UCL – even if meant to be taken lightly – and because of that I believe we were right to accept his resignation.

"Our commitment to gender equality and our support for women in science was and is the ultimate concern.”

This isn't even a misunderstanding about a misinterpreted hateful statement. This is officially thought-policing. You are not allowed to experience humor at the expense of a protected group.

And here I was, expecting a university's ultimate concern to be something like "provide the highest quality education possible", not stupid political bullshit. My mistake, I guess.

Seems more likely to be doubling down to me. If the context was provided in the first place I doubt he (or most people) would have had a problem with what Sir Hunt said. But since they accepted his resignation and initially came out against him they would look very weak if they admitted they were wrong.

Also I think it's stupid but this wouldn't be thought-policing. It's still just an extreme implementation of what most employers do. If you, as an employee, express something that makes the employer look very bad they usually have the ability to fire you. Not saying I agree with it but sir Hunt was fired (more or less fired) for what he said, not what he thought.

Expecting The Guardian to not stick to the narrative? You're gonna have a bad time.

Good. One random perso who gets triggered by a minor satirical joke should not be able to negate someone's life achievements and contributions. It's nice to see that Sir Hunt is at least receiving support from his colleagues.

Sir Tim, not Sir Hunt. If you're gonna use titles learn how they work.

DoNotLink still gives them ad revenue and hits. Use Archive.is instead.

Noble move on Dimbleby's part. It's good to see people standing up to SJWs. Is there a subverse for that kind of stuff?
