If this dude who digs Albert O. Hirschman is into Polanyi and Schumpeter, I'd definitely like to read Hirschman's stuff. Though I'm quite libertarian, and Polanyi was definitely a leftist, his article on fascism, "The Essence of Fascism" is one of the most insightful short articles on the perversion of philosophy I've ever read.

Also, the point about the split between gamers and the journos reminds me of the idea that to be a leader you get in front of a parade. The journos tried to do that and then took a turn that the people in the parade didn't want to take, but continued to think they were leading the parade.

Problem is these journos never led anything an army of outrage lunatics by telling them what they wanted to hear about games and gamers, as soon as they stray from the fairy tale of identity politics they will have lost that audience too.

They thought they were leading gaming into a new social justice era but all they really did was march their merry band of extremists off a cliff. AAA developers know this, a pretty significant number of indie developers know this, publishers know it but the problem is this "indie" press doesn't know it yet.

Agreed.
