Most people hear about mysteries and don't really understand what they are. During the medieval period in Europe, people were mostly not literate so they way they learned lessons was through the mystery plays and these plays were sponsored by groups. It could be a church or a trade guild or the king might organize a group to act out these plays in order to celebrate holidays or simply teach people. There is nothing wrong or sinister about "mystery schools" in concept. Jesus taught mysteries and he said they were. In the parable of the sower he gave the "outer" story where in the first three lines, he talked about the sower casting seeds where they did not thrive such as the stony ground. Then next he gave the "key" and that key to understand his mystery or parable is that the seed in the story represents the word of God. Then in the next 4 lines, he gives the new enlightened story with new meaning when the key is added in. And in the right conditions of fertile soil and moisture, the seed grows and thrives. So honestly, there is nothing evil, scary, or sinister about this mode of teaching.
One story I learned was about this man, a soldier, and a man of faith. He had taken an oath to stay in this one room and observe an oath of silence and pray for 24 hours or some such. And so he did. This was all "exemplified" by it being acted out and the part of the soldier was acted out by me, the new candidate or the uninitiated person, being initiated. this was as I understood it, my initiation. I was to sit and not speak and not leave the room for 24 hours (but it wasn't actually that long). The other members took various parts and the story was acted out. So I guess I was being tested. While I sat there, I heard enemy soldiers gather under the window and they had planned an invasion. The door guard had been secretly replaced by one of their own and soon the enemy would invade and likely many people would be killed. Now, I was faced with a dilemma. Should I violate my oath and vows and go warn my other soldiers? Or should I honor my word to God and be silent, resulting in many innocent people being killed? Well, the right choice was to ask God for forgiveness and guidance and then go out and warn everyone that in invasion was about to occur. However, one has to ask, what if I made the other choice? What if I chose to let the others fend for themselves while assuring that I didn't get punished by God for violating my oath and my promissory vow? I didn't make that choice but in a mystery school, what of people who made that choice of abandoning their fellows to protect themselves, what if that person was then selected to be invited to go through a whole different training? Another secret degree? another secret order? Suppose they were looking for someone self centered who would abandon their fellows because they would be trained for some other sinister thing? This is how people are chosen at things like Skull and Bones. Most likely think it's just a silly play they watch and a corny lesson but they might be secretly screened and selected for something else. Maybe they would eventually after further steps, lessons, or degrees do something horrible like have sex with a young boy and then they could be secretly filmed and controlled after that. Maybe those in control would use this person, this patsy, to advance their 1000 year old agenda. Maybe this compromising of people is encoded secretly in some holy book where to understand it, you need the key. Then maybe that compromised and controlled person will then be given money and backing and made to become Secretary of State or President or even a supreme court justice.
So you see how these things can work. They can be good and innocent or they can be evil and Satanic, but then that's true of everything. My point here is that the evil is not in the mystery school concept. The evil is in the people doing evil. Evil people will use innocent things to commit their evil. Even an automobile can be used for good or for evil. It's the person doing evil who is to be guarded against, not the school, the auto, or anything else. A gun is that way. It can be used to save a life or for murder. It's not the gun but it is the murderer who is committing evil.
