When I was stationed in San Diego my landlords let me make a small edible landscape. They spoke mostly polish and turned their suburban house into a farm, teaching me a few things and introducing me to plants like honeyberry I'd never heard of. Had a small garden a couple of years after at another rental property. A few planters here and there. This is my first property I've bought after years of moving around, so it's the first place I really get to do what I want. Studying companion planting and permaculture were my stress relief through some really shitty times in the military.

Awesome. Glad to hear. Either way, your property is amazing. Planning on a food forest?

Just read your post on ethics and what you want from the sub. Glad I came across v/justgrowit. Your ethics are pretty much spot on with mine, and I'm lucky to have found a place to share my projects and help others. I'll have to put together a couple of posts on some basic companion plants and guilds that even people with small yards can stick in a corner somewhere with little maintenance. We need more people doing this kind of thing.

Eventually. I've got lots of fruit trees and shrubs scattered around, but it will be awhile before they really develop. The two mature mulberries are males, but there are three smaller females. There is a very large crabapple that I grafted edible apples and pears to this spring, so I hope to get a few next year.

My driveway wraps around the house in a U with another section coming off to go to the garage. I plan on ripping almost all of that out and planting around 20 fruit trees.
