Don't get me wrong, I typically love listening to both of them. One of Dan's earlier appearances even got me hooked on Hardcore History.
So, when I saw he was back on the show recently, I was pretty excited. I figured it'd be a typical show, where Joe prods a conversation along based on something his guest is very interested/invested in. Sometimes things get a little political, but it never gets out of hand.
Holy shit, was I wrong this time around. The podcast started pretty slow, as most of them do. Sort of went towards shooting the wind about podcasting and technology. But around 30-35 minutes in, Joe starts running off down the "Tribal Politics" path, and whips out the soapbox while Dan's just stuck taking it in.
By the 40-45 minute mark, Joe starts screaming about "not taking pride in what ancestors did" and "intellect doesn't mean one group is better", among other typical SJW talking points, and Dan barely gets a word in. I'm sure I probably don't agree with Dan's opinions on these either, since he's left of center. But my God, let your guest speak!
I even skipped ahead to some random parts, just to see if Dan EVER got back to talking history. And from my random skipping around, he didn't.
It seemed like the equivalent of having Alexander Ovechkin on your podcast, then discussing Russian hackers and the "brilliant, glorious, stunning, diverse" live action Lion King, while never even speaking about hockey once.
I sort of avoided most of his other podcasts that ever had a lefty on (especially diverse and avant-garde media personalities), but I'm avoiding those like the plague now.
Sorry for the rant, and I guess I'm screaming into the void with how dead this subverse is. But wanted to vent this, and warn anybody who, like me, thought Dan Carlin might actually be permitted to speak about history on a podcast. Joe Rogan is a fighter and media personality; he clearly needs reminded of that from time to time.
Link below, but I don't recommend clicking it.

Agreed, I think he has enough with his podcast, standup, and other projects that it could be considered "fuck you" money. He can do what he wants, he just needs to leave the coastal bubble.
