That's pretty much a death sentence if I'm not mistaken. I think it's impossible to survive 1000 lashes.

Satire site or not, they do do this. There was an atheist blogger who was sentenced to 1000 lashes.
They gave him a number of lashes per week, stopping when the doctor on duty would tell them. Then let the wounds heal for a few days. Rinse, repeat.
