Are you the 4chan guy everybody's talking about? (joking, obviously)

But really, what is your opinion of Snowden, Assange, and others like them?

If only, haha!

Honestly, it's a hard one. I've always had the idea that if something is right, do it regardless of the consequence. So for Snowden, Assange, Manning etc. I believe they did the right thing although some didn't take the right actions. By that, I mean if you're going to leak then you need to get out and fast.

The one that stood out the most was Assange though. I've always looked up to him as one of the founding hackers (for computers), especially knowing it was local to where I am. Regardless to his convictions though, I'm always open to suspicion (without clear evidence I still think he's innocent ;)).

Assange has not been convicted of anything.

Though, of course, the UK is already treating him as if he already were.

They wouldn't leave me alone, ABC followed me for a block so was advised to play nice.

I paid for an actual lawyer, although I had no money (at the time) I had earnt enough to be out of the financial aid.

Why did you plead guilty if you were actually innocent of what they were accusing you of?

Lawyer pretty much forced me, I couldn't afford to fight it.

It was $8000, or $30000.

I've been to court for some things in my past. I know from those experiences that when you dont take their initial deal and push it to trial they make a better deal. Did you figure you had the best deal you could have gotten at least?

typical legal maneuver, threaten him with so much litigation you can't afford, get them to plea to something with ridiculously reduced sentence = "a win in prosecution column"

We call this Swartzing, for Aaron Swartz.

Now that you've basically been martyr'd for what amounts to digital protest, are you considering public speaking?

Once my probation is over, it's either that or getting into educating regarding the digital world. It's something I'm passionate about and I'd like to do something about it in the future.

Fast forward to July 2015 I was raided in relation to them and the November incident.

Well, I didn't hear anything for another few months until December.

Is this some John Titor shit or what?

I wish, there wasn't much that happened inbetween time frames. A lot of waiting around and partying, which is pretty irrelevant to me.

I was just jerking you around. You had fast forward to July 2015 then went on to say you didn't hear anything for a few months until December (the future). Your dates were typo'd or you're a terminator sent back in time to (hopefully) protect us. :)

[–] rax [S] 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

At first it would've been 5 years, then 4 months.. then they cut it down to probation.

What would you have done previously to cover your tracks more?

What is your opinion in the metadata laws that come into effect in October (they will only collect time and size of download and not the actual destination ip address/website) how would this help tbtb?

Trust noone, use a VPN. Wipe HDDs once a month.

That's all you need to do, to be honest. That's if you're doing illegal activities though!

I think they're bullshit, they won't hold up to be honest. If they do, well then it'll easily be fixed - especially when most routers let you use VPNs.

So sell your computer and just run Tails from a USB on others computers?

Was it even clear that you were actually doing illegal activites?

Do you feel qualified to call yourself a hacker for "inciting DDoS".

For inciting DDoS, no. I'd rather be known for my other skills which does qualify me for it. I learnt social engineering when I was younger and played around with databases, but nothing news worthy. I'd find exploits and report them to companies, so really I'd consider myself a white hack - but privately.

Although I of course would never ever visit those sketch ircs, I have the feeling that those are, ahem, shit places to learn about computing.

Depends on where you go, avoid the major ones because that's where you get caught out. Every now and again you'd find good discussions about it all, but now.. don't bother.

Do you code? What languages? PERL, Python, .NET framework then add on website development stuff: jQuery, jScript, CSS3/HTML5, AJAX.

What computer stuff do you do?

At the moment, just computer repairs and website development. I used to do some design work but I'm terrible at complicated design work, haha.

My biggest question is what did you fail to do that you got compromised. Anonymity is a hacker's bread and butter did you not use a vpn without logs? Did you not hide behind 7 proxies?

My compromise was that I trusted someone. I have a feeling that one of the two that was arrested had mentioned me, but I can't support that with solid evidence.

At the time I wasn't living at a certain address, so they pretty much stalked me and caught me out that way. They staked in a car for a few days before making the arrest. I did use VPNs, which is why a lot of what I've done hasn't been out in the open. The time I didn't was when I made those videos, even then they still had to track me down physically.

Are you just recently learning about encryption?

I still am, yes - I can never stop. My chats were mostly encrypted, the only things that weren't were IRC.
