Besides CSS stuff, I'd probably say trying to keep a somewhat good reputation during all the @she stuff. I was pretty much the only mod besides Reow that didn't lose massive amounts of CCP when all the new mods came in under She.

Community-wise: Sort of.

Code-wise: Absolutely 100% yes.

Ha! I knew it! I'm an IT Manager, and I've had TONS of things held together in the most mickey mouse way to make sure it works. I do agree though that having more AMA's are needed, and I'd be happy to do one to contribute. :)

What do you do outside of modding? Did/do you mod on reddit too?

Nope. I was never all that active on Reddit. Never modded there. As far as other internet stuff, I do a lot of sketch comedy and dancing videos on YouTube, and I used to help run a Runescape private server before it got shut down.

I read somewhere that if there is a subverse that the creator hasn't done shit with in a long time, you can take it over? How would I do that? Also is there a tutorial/FAQ on the basics of modding?

.... If there isn't, and you have so much free time, you should make one?

Thanks!

You can request to take over an abandoned sub at /v/subverserequest. There's a post which outlines how to go about requesting it as well as the requirements.

There isn't really one right way to go about modding. Some mods like a super lax approach, where they only step in if they have to. Others like to heavily control what can and cannot be posted, and others still like the community to decide. Each of them work for different things and different situations. If you have a specific sub that fills a niche (ex. /v/retrogaming), then it would make sense to not allow things that deviate from retro gaming.

The most important thing in any moderator position is public relations. You want new people to come to your sub and your current subscribers to not leave. Therefore, it's wise to really take community feedback seriously, and not just brush it off because you don't like change or you want it a specific way. I'm not saying you have to do everything your users say, but not listening to them at all is PR suicide (take @she for example).

Or you could take the SBBH approach to moderation which is... I don't even know
