Let's be honest though, as someone with a horrible childhood... The drugs and booze we're not a gateway... My childhood abuse was the gateway drug.

From personal experience, drugs are used as an "escape" from reality. So whatever is causing that shitty reality is the real gateway. The problem is that drugs make your reality worse which in turn makes it a self-perpetuating cycle.

Can confirm. Beer leads to cigarettes which makes sweet Mary Jane look appealing. If I had gone straight for weed I doubt I ever would have picked up a beer.

wait, doesn't the beer industry lobby against legalization?

I know im a little late but why would you put beer as your gateway? Do you think weed was part of the starting issue?

Alcohol and heroin have very similar effects on the body, it's almost identical regarding regarding resulting actions on synapses/neurotransmitters, you smoke heroin for instance it really feels like you drank half a bottle of whisky, you're not drunk, but it definitely feels sort of drunk, the main difference between alcohol and heroin being the intensity

So yeah, an alcohol addict might very well end up getting into heroin because of that, and an heroin addict is likely to default on alcohol when there is no heroin
